Darren Till’s biggest fight of his career will come in his hometown. The Liverpool native, coming off a breakthrough performance against Donald Cerrone, will meet two-time title challenger and No. 1 contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 130 in Liverpool.
There are just so many great things about this matchup. Till could become a bona fide star if he beats Thompson - and possibly earn a title shot in the process. And these are arguably the two best strikers in the division. Both Thompson and Till are elite kickboxers, possessing violent styles brimming with flashy kicks and brutal punches. This is about as fan-friendly as it gets.
Also on the card is a welterweight scrap between Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson. Both guys are jockeying for position in an extremely competitive welterweight division. The fact that fighters as good as these are barely top 10 guys speaks to how good the weight class is right now. The good news is that they’re young and talented. The bad news is that the loser is going to have a long way to climb back into relevancy.
Other notable fighters scheduled to appear are Daniel Kelly, the legendary dad-bod from Australia, male model Elias Theodorou and a slew of local English fighters defending their home soil. Fights are still being made to round out the rest of the card, but the main event alone makes this a must-watch Fight Night.

What to Watch For
Can we just reiterate how awesome this main event is? Darren Till didn’t just beat Donald Cerrone - a star and contender - he absolutely demolished him in one round. Keep in mind that Cerrone is a former pro kickboxer, and Till made him look like an amateur with a barrage of lethal strikes.
Though he’s listed at 6’0”, Till looked a full weight class bigger than Cerrone. That won’t be the case against Thompson, who is a rangy 6-footer himself. They’re both southpaws, too. Thompson is a former American kickboxing champion, and his bouncy sidestance has become one of the most recognizable fighting styles in the division. Till is a more traditional kickboxer, but he is a far more dangerous submission stylist.
Currently, Thompson is a sizeable favorite, though we’d expect his line to come up a bit. Till’s recent performance against Cerrone drew too much hype to not have an affect on the sportsbooks.
Neil Magny has been hanging around the top 10 for a while, and he’s got notable wins over Erick Silva, Kelvin Gastelum, Hector Lombard, Johny Hendricks and Carlos Condit. But timely losses to Lorenz Larkin and Rafael dos Anjos has kept him out of the title mix. Nelson, a training partner of Conor McGregor, has also had some good wins blended with debilitating losses. His two fight win streak over Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban was recently snapped by Santiago Ponzinibbio, and a second straight loss could push him to the lightweight division.
