UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie Odds
Date: Saturday, October 17, 2020
Venue: UFC Fight Island
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Time to settle some bad blood. By now, we’re all familiar with the drama between Brian Ortega and The Korean Zombie, culminating in an incident where Ortega slapped Zombie’s translator/buddy/rapper Jay Park. The South Korean took to social media to defend his friend, calling Ortega a coward and promising to teach him a lesson. From there, both dudes have been simmering on the sidelines, waiting to lay hands on each other.
It’s more than just personal too: the winner of this matchup likely gets to challenge Alex Volkanovski for the title. The champ doesn’t have an opponent scheduled just yet, and Ortega and Zombie are both top 5 guys. Each makes for a compelling opponent against the Aussie, who has his work cut out for him in a stacked division. Zombie’s popularity makes him an easy sell for a title fight should he win. Ortega wouldn’t be hard to promote either, as his origin story, looks and fighting style make him a marketable dude.
We’ve also got to mention the strawweight scrap between Jessica Andrade and Katlyn Chookagian. Any fight featuring former champion Bate Estaca is worth watching, as she’s a mini tank that never stops coming forward and firing away. Though she’s currently on a two-fight losing streak, losing to Weili Zhang and Rose Namajunas is nothing to be ashamed of.
The Brazilian will move up to challenge Katlyn Chookagian at flyweight, and this is a big deal because Chookagian is currently the No. 1 contender in the weight class. If Andrade can get past Chookagian, we’ve got an instant title contender in the mix. To be honest, it might not even really matter considering how dominant Valentina Shevchenko has been - we don’t see anyone beating her any time soon.
There’s something about massive, ripped heavyweights that will always capture our attention. From Brock Lesnar to Francis Ngannou to prime horsemeat Alistair Overeem, watching hulks smash never gets old. Add Ciryl Gane to the list of big men who pass the eye test. The Frenchman is 6’5” and tips the scales at 265 pounds. He’s much more than a knockout artist - Gane’s 6-0 record includes 2 KOs and 3 submissions.
So far, he’s beaten Don’Tale Mayes and Tanner Boser inside the octagon. Next up is Croatia’s Ante Delija, who's a big dude himself at 6’5”, 250 pounds. Delija is making his UFC debut after stints in M-1, PFL, Rizin and most recently KSW. He’s also the biggest underdog on this entire card at +432. That tells us he’s being brought in to give Gane some shine, but nobody likes to be used as a tin can. Perhaps the Team Cro Cop product has a few surprises for Gane.
