Texas Bowl Preview
LSU comes in with the same record as the Bears but has lost three of their last five games since reaching No. 8 in the country in late October. LSU is led by junior QB Garrett Nussmeier, a finalist for the Manning Award who ranks among the top 15 nationally in passing yards and passing touchdowns. In the all-time series, LSU leads Baylor 8-3 — but the Bears have triumphed both times the teams have previously met in bowl games.
Last game, the Baylor Bears won 45-17 against the Kansas Jayhawks as 2.5-point home dogs. The game went to a push on the total of 62. Baylor has a record of 8-4 straight up, 9-3 against the spread, and 7-4-1 over/under the total. Baylor ranks 27th for total offense, 43rd for passing, 35th for rushing and 21st for scoring. Defensively they rank 81st overall, 84th against the pass, 77th against the rush, and 70th for points allowed. Also, Baylor ranks 38th for fewest turnovers lost and 28th for takeaways.
Last game, the LSU Tigers won 37-17 against the Oklahoma Sooners as 6-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 48. LSU has a record of 8-4 straight up, 4-8 against the spread, and 4-8 over/under the total. LSU ranks 31st for total offense, 8th for passing, 108th for rushing and 56th for scoring. Defensively they rank 51st overall, 47th against the pass, 63rd against the rush, and 57th for points allowed. Also, LSU ranks 51st for fewest turnovers lost and 122nd for takeaways.

The LSU Tigers were underwhelming in the Texas Bowl. Kansas State, on the other hand, had a landslide victory and a perfect game plan. For LSU, after a disappointing 6-7 record in 2021, the program can now be rolled over to next season. But for Kansas, the Wildcats can pull off a big win to finish the season 8-5.
In 2022, Texas Tech beat Ole Miss 42-25. MVP QB Tyler Shough threw for 242 yards with a TD and rushed for 111 yards and two more TDs.
In 2023, Rashod Owens had a career-high 164 yards receiving with two touchdowns, and Presley tied a school record with 16 receptions and had 152 yards receiving in a 31-23 victory over Texas A&M.
Ollie Gordon II, the Doak Walker Award winner, added 118 yards rushing to finish with 2,062 yards of offense and help Oklahoma State reach double-digit wins for the second time in three seasons after finishing 12-2 in 2021. Alan Bowman had 402 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Coach Mike Gundy said getting to 10 wins was important.
“That’s a big mark,” he said. “It’s not easy to win double digit games at any level, in particular with college football, and these guys have stayed the course from day one, and they’re unselfish. They practice hard, and it’s fun to coach them.”
Oklahoma State led by 18 at halftime, but a 51-yard field goal by Randy Bond got the Aggies to 31-23 with about five minutes to go. The Cowboys missed a 47-yard field goal with 17 seconds to go, and the Aggies had another chance to score. But Marcel Reed's pass was intercepted near the end zone by Kendal Daniels on the last play of the game.
