Louisville Cardinals Sun Bowl Betting Online
Although it was not quite as good as his 2023 debut, Louisville Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm led his team to an 8-4 record and a solid bowl game appearance. Last year, Brohm made a spectacular debut with a 10-4 season and an appearance in the ACC Championship Game. Louisville finished the regular season with two impressive wins. The Wildcats routed a respected Pitt team in the home finale and then the Cards took apart Kentucky on the road to conclude the season. Losses to Miami, SMU, and Notre Dame were understandable, but blowing a game at Stanford was inexcusable.

The streak has been broken, and it was done so with an exclamation mark.
Traveling to Kentucky for the annual regular season-ending Battle for the Governor's Cup, the Louisville football program finally overcame its archrival, leaving Kroger Field with a convincing win.
The Cardinals snapped a five-game losing streak in the rivalry, winning for the first time since 2017. It had been their longest losing streak to the Wildcats since the rivalry was renewed in 1994.
While Louisville left some points on the board and had a couple of defensive lapses from the opening kickoff onwards, they were unquestionably the more dominant team. They out-gained the Wildcats 486-to-328 for the game overall, including 256-to-107 in the first half.
It was a ground-and-pound approach from the Cardinals, rushing for 358 yards and four touchdowns - including 282 yards and all four scores from their true freshman running back duo. Duke Watson ran for 104 yards on six carries, while Isaac Brown totaled 178 yards on 26, with each running for two touchdowns.
A swarming and opportunistic presence on defense complemented this high-octane ground game. Louisville forced five turnovers, with safety Tamarion McDonald logging both an interception and a fumble. Corners Tahveon Nicholson and Quincy Riley also snagged picks, while defensive tackle Dezmond Tell forced a fumble that Ramon Puryear recovered for a touchdown.
Starting quarterback true freshman Cutter Boley was held to 6-of-15 for 48 yards and two interceptions. It had to exit the game early in the second quarter after being on the receiving end of the targeting call from Thor Griffith.

Nearly all the success enjoyed by the Louisville football program has taken place in the last two decades. Since 1998, the Cardinals have appeared in 16 of the program’s 21 bowl games, and they’ve had just two losing seasons in that span. The Cards have also been a member of four conferences in that stretch but appear to have found a home in the ACC.
The Cardinals made their first bowl game a success by beating Drake in the Sun Bowl following the 1957 season. It would be 13 more seasons before the Cards returned to a bowl and 33 more before they notched another win. The Cards had their first 10-win season and won the Fiesta Bowl in 1999.
Coach John L. Smith started to turn the program into a national powerhouse in the late 1990s and strung together five consecutive winning seasons and bowl games, leaving the club in good shape for Bobby Petrino’s first stint. The Cards won 41 games in four years and earned their highest ranking ever in the AP poll, topping out at No. 3. Following a program record 12 wins and an Orange Bowl victory in 2006, Petrino left for the NFL. Petrino returned in 2014, and the Cards won at least eight games in each of his four seasons. Lamar Jackson won a Heisman Trophy under Petrino in 2016.
After a 2018 collapse, Petrino was fired, and Scott Satterfield could never quite break out. After Satterfield fled to Cincinnati one step ahead of the posse, Louisville found the perfect fit in native son Jeff Brohm.
