Ole Miss lost to Florida in Gainesville, likely knocking the Rebels out of the College Football Playoff conversation. On the afternoon, Ole Miss was 3-of-14 on third downs and 2-of-4 on fourth downs and failed to score a touchdown while in the red zone.
Florida struck first on Saturday on an eight-yard touchdown pass from DJ Lagway to Elijhah Badger in the second quarter. Still, Ole Miss was able to answer on the ensuing possession with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Jaxson Dart to Tre Harris.
Saturday marked Harris' first game back with Ole Miss since he was injured in the loss to LSU, but he would later exit the game and not return due to another lower-body injury in the first half.
After the Rebels hauled in an interception thrown by Lagway, they capitalized with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Dart to Cayden Lee to make the score 14-7. However, Florida answered partway through the second quarter with another scoring pass from Lagway, making the score 14-14 at the intermission.
The third quarter saw the Ole Miss defense shut down the Gator offense for most of the frame, although Florida was able to add a field goal early in the quarter following a muffed punt by the Rebels' Micah Davis. With 45 seconds left in the third, Ole Miss kicker Caden Davis sank a 42-yard field goal to tie the game at 17.

Ole Miss has a unique reputation in college football. The Rebels won the last of their six conference championships in 1963. Their last national championship was in 1962. Success at Ole Miss is defined by making a bowl game and pulling off an upset. Recruiting limitations begin with the small in-state population.
Yet everyone has a trip to Oxford, MS, on their bucket list. The Grove is one of the most iconic pregame venues in college football. And the girls are the prettiest. In fact, the old saying is that Ole Miss is where Miss America goes to red shirt!
John Vaught, whose name is honored at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium, is the greatest coach in Ole Miss history. Vaught put up four double-digit win seasons from 1955 through 1962 and led the Rebels to ten Top Ten seasons from 1953 through 1969. Under Vaught, the Rebels went to bowl games in all but two seasons from 1952 through 1970, in an era when making the postseason was difficult.
David Cutcliffe, Houston Nutt, and Hugh Freeze all had some success leading the Ole Miss program. Lane Kiffin is now on pace to become one of the Ole Miss greats and perhaps even challenge Vaught as the GOAT of Ole Miss football coaches.
