Todd Pelino of Duke made field goals from 42 and 32 in the opening period, which saw the Blue Devils lead 20-17. In a five and a half minute span early in the second quarter, Leonard found Hagans for 30 yards and Jaylen Calhoun for 46 as Duke increased its lead to 17-7. With 1:50 remaining in the half, Matthew Dennis' 32-yard field goal leveled the score after Hartman's 8-yard completion to Donavon Greene for a score.
