Seattle Seahawks 2024-25 NFL Season Recap
The Seattle Seahawks' failure to defend home turf in front of the 12th Man ultimately sealed the postseason fate for Mike Macdonald in his first go-round as the franchise’s shot caller. Despite grinding out a 6-3 road win over the Chicago Bears to move two games above .500, their playoff hopes were dashed a few nights later when the Rams secured a gritty 13-9 victory over the Cardinals. That paired with the Commanders' overtime comeback win against the Falcons pushed Seattle out of the NFC playoff picture. They finished a disappointing 3-6 straight up (SU) and an even worse 2-7 against the spread (ATS) at Lumen Field, with only one of their three victories coming against a team that went on to qualify for the playoffs. Conversely, Geno Smith and company excelled on the road, posting a 7-1 SU and 4-3-1 ATS record, with their only win over a playoff entrant coming in the season finale against a Rams team that sat most of its key players. Even then, they still failed to cover the closing NFL spread! Given their inconsistency, Seattle fittingly lands as the No. 8 seed in the NFC, just outside the playoff bracket.
Regardless of failing to punch a bid to the second season, improvement was made in the Pacific Northwest with the Seahawks earning a double-digit win tally for the first time since 2020. Most importantly, vast improvement was made on the defensive side of the ball under the newly aligned coaching staff. A year removed from getting ripped for 370+ yards (No. 30) and 23+ points per game (No. 25), Seattle only served up 332+ yards (No. 14) and 21.6 points (No. 11) per game. Disappointing however proved to be an offense that failed to march a balanced attack onto the gridiron largely due to the injury bug targeting both Kenneth Walker III and DK Metcalf. While the passing game still went on to flourish due to Geno Smith throwing for a career-high 4,320 yards, he only managed a 21:15 TD/INT ratio resulting in a 93.2 passer rating. That however didn’t prevent Jaxon Smith-Njigba from blowing up in his sophomore campaign for 1,130 receiving yards and 6 TD. His breakout is likely to see him become an even bigger piece to the puzzle moving forward with it highly likely veteran Tyler Lockett will be shown the door in the offseason.
As much as you’d like to think Seattle will make it a point to rectify its pass protection along an offensive line that conceded the fourth-most sacks in the league this season (54), I can’t help but think GM John Schneider will continue to look to give Macdonald the pieces he needs to turn the defense back into the “Legion of Boom” it once was. With the stop unit coming up two sacks short of the 47 it tallied the prior season and the secondary still ranking just outside the top-10, one can only imagine how much better it would be if another competent pass rusher was added to the mix. With that, it would hardly shock me if the Seahawks looked the way of defensive standouts like James Pearce Jr., Shemar Stewart, Walter Nolen, Mike Green, or Mykel Williams should they fall to them at the No. 18 pick. Regardless of failing to make the playoffs each of the last two years, the Seahawks look to be on track with it hitting the over of its season win total each of the last three years. I personally cashed a ticket on the over and added to the bank roll the past two seasons, and will be looking to do so once again provided linemakers don’t adjust too far off what proved to be a laughable 7.5-game impost.
Seattle Seahawks Week 18 Recap
The Seattle Seahawks capped their NFL betting season with a 30-25 victory over the playoff-bound Los Angeles Rams, securing their 12th winning season in 13 years despite missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Geno Smith threw for 223 yards and a career-best four touchdowns, including a game-winning 16-yard pass to Noah Fant with 3:19 remaining. Smith finished the year with 4,097 passing yards, showing leadership and consistency under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald. DK Metcalf, Jake Bobo, and AJ Barner each caught touchdown passes, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba tied Tyler Lockett’s franchise record with 100 receptions in a single season. The Seahawks won six of their last eight games, reflecting strong momentum and resilience despite falling short of postseason play. Lockett, who had two catches for 28 yards, acknowledged the possibility of it being his final game in Seattle, given his looming $30.8 million cap hit in 2025. Seattle maintained control of the game until the fourth quarter, when Los Angeles briefly took a 25-24 lead. Smith responded with a clutch drive, capped by Fant’s acrobatic touchdown catch. Defensive injuries, including rookie DT Byron Murphy’s back issue, hampered the team but did not derail a gritty effort. The Seahawks’ strong finish highlights optimism for future success under Macdonald’s leadership.
2024 Seattle Seahawks Schedule, Results & Record
The Seattle Seahawks were established in 1974 when the NFL awarded an expansion franchise to the city of Seattle. The team's name was selected through a public contest, with "Seahawks" being the winning choice. The franchise officially joined the NFL in 1976 as part of the league's expansion efforts, playing their home games at the Kingdome. Initially placed in the NFC West, the Seahawks switched to the AFC West the following year as part of the NFL's realignment. Early years saw mixed results, but the Seahawks quickly garnered a passionate fan base, famously known as the "12th Man" for their enthusiastic support.
From 1999 through 2008, Mike Holmgren made the Seahawks a serious contender and NFC champion in 2005. Pete Carroll, hired as the head coach of the Seahawks in 2010, brought a new energy and vision to the team. His partnership with rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, drafted in 2012, marked the beginning of a highly successful era. Carroll's coaching philosophy, emphasizing competition and a strong defense, meshed perfectly with Wilson's dynamic playmaking abilities. Together, they led the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl XLVIII in a dominant 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos. Under Carroll and Wilson, the Seahawks consistently made the playoffs and became one of the NFL's premier franchises during their time together. Since 2003, Seattle has missed the playoffs only six times.
