NFL Week 3 Betting Odds

Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season starts with an AFC East confrontation between the New England Patriots and New York Jets and ends with a Monday night doubleheader. During his time with the Jets Aaron Rodgers has taken four snaps at MetLife Stadium and he’s looking for a different outcome when the betting week opens. After a year off due to his Achilles injury, Rodgers looked rusty in a season-opening loss to San Francisco but he and the team were better in Sunday’s 24-17 win over Tennessee. The numbers weren’t great; Rodgers threw for just 176 yards. But he had two TD passes and was perfect on the fourth-quarter game-winning touchdown drive.

The Super Bowl favorite Kansas City Chiefs improved to 2-0 taking out two teams thought to be contenders in the AFC. KC beat MVP Lamar Jackson and Baltimore in Week 1 and got a game-winning 51-yard field goal from Harrison Butker with no time remaining to beat Cincinnati, 26-25, on Sunday. The Bengals and Ravens both started 0-2 and are among nine teams searching for their first win. Baltimore and Dallas are looking to rebound from Week 2 losses when they meet in Big D on Sunday. The Ravens blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead losing to Las Vegas 26-23 as an 8.5-point favorite. The Cowboys were mauled at home, 44-19, by New Orleans as a 6-point favorite.

The highest spread on the early Week 3 board belongs to the Bengals, who are laying 7.5-points to Washington for their Monday night game. Also favored by a touchdown are the Buccaneers at home against winless Denver and San Francisco at the Los Angeles Rams. The matchup between the Lions and Cardinals is the only game with a total above 50 while four games have an over/under in the 30s.

Two games on the Week 3 slate feature undefeated teams with the Vikings hosting Houston as a 2.5-point home dog. The Pittsburgh Steelers make their 2024 home debut as a 2-point favorite on the early line against the Chargers. Minnesota surprised San Francisco on Sunday with Sam Darnold throwing a pair of TD passes in the 23-17 victory. The Vikings were one of eight underdogs to win outright in Week 2 and once again they’re catching points in their building.

It’s early but the top two defenses in terms of points allowed square off in the Bolts-Steelers tilt. Pittsburgh went nearly five quarters without scoring a touchdown yet they’re unbeaten thanks to a D that’s given up just one TD. Chris Boswell might be the MVP through two games hitting all eight of his field goal attempts, including four from 50 yards or longer.

The Steelers blanked Denver through three quarters and didn’t allow a TD in their 13-6 win on Sunday. The Chargers were even better holding the hapless Panthers to 159 total yards and seven first downs in their 26-3 win. The Steelers opened as a 2-point home favorite with the total the lowest on the board opening at 36.

Baltimore had the best record in the NFL last season at 13-4. They’re already half way to their loss total after a fourth-quarter collapse to the Raiders. Of the eight underdogs to win outright in Week 2, the Raiders were the biggest catching 8.5-points. The Cowboys weren’t far behind spotting New Orleans 6.5-points. The Boys dismantled every regular season home opponent last year but were no match for the Saints, who scored a TD on their first six drives. Baltimore opened as a 1-point favorite.

The Saints are the fifth team to open a season scoring at least 44 points in consecutive games. They’ll attempt to continue their offensive wizardry in a NFC showdown with Philadelphia. The Saints hit the board laying 2-points with the total at 49.

Injuries are always a concern in the futures market and the Miami Dolphins suffered a big one when Tua Tagovailoa was concussed in the Week 2 Thursday night game. The Fins also lost a crucial division matchup to Buffalo, 31-10. The Niners opened the year without Christian McCaffrey and it appears as though top receiver Deebo Samuel is going to miss time. The Niners visit the winless Rams in a NFC West tilt on Sunday as a 7-point early line favorite.
