The Birmingham Stallions dominated the XFL odds en route to winning last season’s title, adding to their two USFL championships and cementing themselves as the team to beat in spring league football. Skip Holtz guided his squad to a commanding 9-1 regular season record, going undefeated in divisional play before cruising through the postseason—defeating the Michigan Panthers in the USFL Conference Championship and shutting out the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL Championship. When it was all said and done, the Stallions closed the year 11-1 straight up (SU) and 7-5 against the UFL betting lines.

Regardless of Adrian Martinez latching on with the New York Jets following last year’s title run, oddsmakers at the crypto sportsbook remain high on Birmingham’s chances, listing them as the +165 favorites to secure a fourth straight spring league title. However, their title defense begins with a tough Week 1 matchup on the road against a DC Defenders squad that pushed Birmingham to the brink, but failed to seal the deal last year. Even so, linemakers installed the defending champs hefty favorites to kick off the new campaign in the win column.

Birmingham Stallions UFL Week 1 Matchup

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Birmingham Stallions will take on the D.C. Defenders from Audi Field in Washington, DC. Kickoff time is set for 3 p.m. ET with television coverage on ESPN. The opening UFL Week 1 betting lines hit the board with the Stallions installed 7-point favorites and the total lined 41. The defending champions kick off their title defense in the nation’s capital against a Defenders squad that challenged them in their lone matchup at Protective Stadium last season. DC jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, but Birmingham responded with 11 unanswered points in the second to take an 11-6 halftime advantage. The Defenders edged the Stallions 6-3 in the third, cutting the deficit to 14-12 entering the final quarter.

The teams traded field goals before DC took an 18-17 lead with just over a minute left. However, Matt Corral led Birmingham into field goal range, and Ramiz Ahmed drilled a 46-yarder as time expired to seal a dramatic 20-18 victory. Despite outgaining DC 356-251, the Stallions failed to cover the 9.5-point spread, while the 38 combined points stayed well under the 47 total. Costly mistakes—including losing the turnover battle 2-1 and a blocked punt—kept Birmingham bettors from cashing in on the UFL odds.

The Stallions proved to be moneymakers for UFL bettors on the road last season going a moneymaking 4-1 SU and ATS, while the under paid off three times with an average of 40.4 points hitting the board. Birmingham led the league in scoring offense last season averaging 26.5 points per game, and backed it up with a shutdown stop unit that only surrendered 18.0 points per game (#2).

Birmingham Stallions 2024 Season Recap

No UFL team put more points on the board than that of the Stallions. The offense scored a grand total of 265 points equating to 26.5 points while racking up nearly 350 yards per game. While Martinez proved to be a key factor in why Birmingham was so readily able to run the football, Ricky Person and CJ Marable also played key roles combining for 571 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. The Stallions power running game paced the attack in averaging 136 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry, but the unit was no stranger to throwing the ball either. Only Luis Perez and Jordan Ta’amu threw for more passing yards than Martinez with Jace Sternberger and Deon Cain proving to be his primary targets.

What truly set Birmingham apart from the remaining UFL crop was a defense that conceded the second-fewest points in the league. That paired with an offense that led the league in scoring simply had the Stallions cut a level above the rest. The wheat was truly separated from the chaff in the playoffs after Birmingham trounced the division rival Michigan Panthers 31-18 in the USFL semis even after falling into an early 12-0 first quarter hole. They still covered the closing 5.5-point UFL betting line with ease. There was absolutely no drama in the inaugural UFL Championship Game after the Stallions waltzed to the 25-0 shutout win as what proved to be mispriced 3.5-point favorites.
