The match play format has gained more popularity in recent years and this WGC event always draws a strong field of players. It is not up to the excitement level of the Ryder Cup, but players do like match play and there have been some excellent matches through the years. The championship match between Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm in 2017 was an exciting one between two of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour, with Johnson winning 1 up.

Tiger did really well in this event for a six year period, winning three times. The only other multiple winners of the event are Ogilvy and Day. Some golfers excel in match play, while others do not, so it would not be a surprise to see someone challenge Tiger for the overall record of three wins in this event someday.
