Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. English Premier League Odds
The Seagulls may have a history that spans over 100 years, but the club’s trophy case is pretty bare. Brighton has only been able to win one national award, and that was all the way back in 1910 when they knocked off Aston Villa for the FA Charity Shield. However, participating in the Premier League, and benefitting from the subsequent financial windfall, is a successful story in its own right.
Over the course of their existence, Brighton has largely played in the third tier of English football. The club only started primarily playing in the second tier back in the late 1970s, and that’s where they have mostly been over the last four decades.
Since the end of World War I, Brighton has only been able to finish top of the table in their division five times. Four of those five first place finishes came in the third tier of English football or less though, with the lone second tier win coming in 2002. 2018-19 marks just their sixth year playing top flight football.

Although Brighton is unlikely to contend for a spot in Europe, a mid-table finish is not out of the question and would be considered a success. The club was able to do enough over the first three-quarters of the 2017-18 campaign to avoid relegation, but the Seagulls really struggled over their final nine games. They went 1-3-5 and lost four of their five matches by multiple goals. Brighton was able to make a deep run in the FA Cup though, making it to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Brighton is going to lean heavily on its defense once more this season. Manager Chris Hughton is known for employing a defensive approach, and the Seagulls aren’t prone to taking too many chances. That might lead to some snoozers, but it’s hard to argue with the results.
The club will ask a lot of Glenn Murray on the offensive end. Murray led the team with 14 goals in all competitions last campaign, and he has the right amount of creativity to make trouble for opposing defenses. Brighton was able to keep Pascal Gross, Shane Duffy, and a few other key pieces, but there has been a lot of turnover on this roster in the offseason.
