Although Huddersfield Town is a relative newcomer to the Premier League, this is a club with a long history of success. The Terriers became the first team to ever win three straight titles in the first division of English football and were the team of the decade in the 1920’s. Huddersfield Town finished in the top three for six straight seasons, making a name for itself in the process.
Unfortunately, the post war years weren’t great for the club. Huddersfield Town had played top tier football for two decades prior to the outbreak of World War II, but they were unable to have the same success after the resumption of the league. They were demoted to the second division shortly afterwards, and while they moved back up in the early 1970s, they were relegated three times in four years and were playing in the fourth division for a considerable amount of time.
Last season was Huddersfield Town’s first in the top tier of English football in almost five decades. Many expected them to quickly get pushed back down to Championship, but instead the Terriers were able to survive and last for another season. That additional year of Premier League money could help them out tremendously.

At this point, Huddersfield Town is playing with house money. No one expected the Terriers to get promoted to the Premier League in the first place two years ago, as they had not finished higher than 16th in their previous four years in the Championship. They were incredibly fortunate to finish fifth in a year where they posted a negative goal differential, and then won promotion by winning two matches in penalty kicks.
Aaron Mooy is the key for Huddersfield Town. The talented midfielder was the team’s best player all throughout last season, and his hard-nosed style has helped the Terriers pick up results. He will look to have the same impact this year, while high-priced acquisition Terence Kongolo will look to shore up the defense at the center back position.
