Watford F.C. English Premier League Odds
Of all the teams in the Premier League, Watford has spent the shortest amount of time in the top flight of English football. The Hornets have only spent 11 years in the highest tier, and it took them a long time to even get to that point. Watford first made it to the top flight in 1982, more than 100 years after they were founded.
Interestingly enough, Watford’s most successful season was its first in the highest division. The Hornets finished in second place in the 1982-83 season, and that led to them qualifying for the UEFA Cup the following year. Although they quickly fell back into the middle of the table, they were also able to have their most successful run in the FA Cup during this period, finishing runners-up at the 1984 FA Cup.
It took a few times for Watford’s promotion to stick, but now the Hornets are in the middle of their second-longest run in top flight football.

Watford was able to do enough to stay up for a third straight season last year. The Hornets really struggled in defense, allowing the third-most goals (64) in the Premier League, but the team was able to generate enough offense to stay alive. Tom Cleverley and Adrian Mariappa were key to the attack for Watford, teaming up with Abdoulaye Doucoure to give the team scoring threats.
The Hornets are looking to do enough to stay afloat once more this year. Watford was able to keep Gerard Deulofeu of Barcelona after his loan period, and the club has acquired a few other players to add depth, especially in defense. Other teams are gunning for Doucoure though, and they may sell him off at some point this season.
