Only the Milan clubs and Juventus have won more league titles than Genoa. Genoa dominated Italian football from their foundation into the early 1920s, claiming nine domestic trophies during that time-span. However, the club has not had much success since Serie A was founded in 1929. Before its foundation, Genoa had the nine titles and eight runner-up finishes but since then they have just one runner-up finish and zero titles to their name.

Genoa have been unable to win Serie A, and to add insult to injury, the historic club has spent a considerable amount of time in the second tier of Italian football. They even dropped down to Serie C for a year in the 2000s, but they quickly won their way back to Serie A after successive promotions.

During the 1930s, Genoa won the Coppa Italia once and finished runner-up once. In European play, they made it all the way to the semifinals of the 1991-92 Europa League in their inaugural appearance. They have only made it to the Europa League one other time though and have yet to make the Champions League.

Genoa have been a little more than your typical mid-table club since their return. They finished fifth in Serie A in 2008-09 and qualified for the Europa League the next year. They have nearly been relegated three times though, finishing just out of the relegation zone in consecutive years earlier this decade.

This offseason, Genoa have spent a good chunk of change and should safely finish in the middle of the pack. They did lose midfielder Diego Laxalt and goalkeeper Mattia Perin to larger Italian clubs, but they reinvested that money to grab forwards Gianluca Lapadula, Christian Kouame, Claudio Spinelli, and Krzysztof Piatek. That should make this club fun to watch as they look to outscore foes.
