You wouldn’t know it given their recent history, but Torino have one of the best legacies in Italian football. Torino had one of the most dominant teams Italy has ever seen in the 1940s, and the club still holds on to those hallowed years.

Prior to the 1940s, Torino were a good club that mostly finished in the top half of the table and occasionally challenged the eventual winner. However, the club stepped into the spotlight during the 1942-43 season by winning the league in dominating fashion. That was the last year of Italian football before the end of the war, but they picked right where they left off in the postwar years. Torino won four straight Serie A titles as soon as Italy was playing football again. It’s safe to say the club could have won seven in a row if not for the war.

Sadly, Torino have not been the same since the Superga air disaster. The entire team was onboard the plane when it crashed just outside the city with four matches to play in the 1948-49 campaign, and the club has never fully recovered from the tragic incident.

Since then, Torino’s power has slowly waned. The club was competitive in the 1970s and 1980s, claiming another Serie A title in that time, but they have dropped off significantly over the past few decades. Torino have won seven league titles and five Coppa Italia competitions in their history.
