Borussia Dortmund UEFA Champions League Odds
The Bundesliga has had some of the best clubs and fiercest competition in the world since its inception. Borussia Dortmund is one of those clubs, and their trophy case is a testament to how successful they have been over the years. Domestically, Dortmund has won eight German league championships, four German cups, and five German Supercups.
The club’s European success has been nothing to sneeze at either. Borussia Dortmund may not have the quantity of European titles that other German clubs do, but they can always say they were the first. Their UEFA Cup Winners Cup victory in 1966 made them the first German team to ever win a European championship.
Borussia Dortmund has achieved the ultimate success on the grandest stage in international club football as well. In 1997, Dortmund was able to get hot at just the right time in order to win their first and only Champions League title. That year, Dortmund knocked off Auxerre in the Quarterfinals and shut out Manchester United in the Semifinals to get to the Finals. They were underdogs against mighty Serie A side Juventus, but a brace from Karl-Heinz Riedle helped lead them to a 3-1 victory.
One of the things that separates Borussia Dortmund from other clubs is their fans. Dortmund has one of the largest stadiums in Europe, and they annually have one of the highest average attendance figures in the world. Their fans are renowned for their constant singing, flag waving, and their marvelous tifos.

At the start of this decade, Borussia Dortmund looked like a team that could challenge Bayern Munich for Bundesliga supremacy. Dortmund won the Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012, and the club made it to the Champions League Final in 2013 (where they lost to Bayern Munich ironically enough).
However, the club started to tail off and shortly after that popular manager Jurgen Klopp announced that he was headed to Liverpool. The club has had a tough time replacing Klopp since he left, and their fortunes started to take another turn south after this departure.
Borussia Dortmund has continued to be a factory for producing talented young players though. The club has developed and sold a number of today’s stars including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ilkay Gundogan, Mats Hummels, Robert Lewandowski, and most recently, Ousmane Dembele, Sokratis, and Andriy Yarmolenko. That has helped them out financially, but they are looking for trophies at this point.
Ahead of this season and Champions League campaign, Dortmund has spent large to acquire two big names from other German clubs. Center back Abdou Diallo is seen as a potential stalwart in the back line, while center midfielder Thomas Delaney is pesky and unafraid to challenge for possession in the center of the field. The club also picked up talented teenager Achraf Hakimi on a year-long loan from Real Madrid to be the club’s right back.
Most of Dortmund’s additions center on tightening the screws on defense. The club seems confident that American superstar Christian Pulisic will continue to develop into something special, and they are counting on him to provide a lot of the offense this season.
