FC Barcelona UEFA Champions League Odds

More than a club. That’s been the motto of Barcelona since its foundation at the turn of the century. The Spanish giants represent more than a soccer club to their fans, embodying many aspects of the Catalan culture as well.

To make such grandiose claims, you have to be able to back it up by winning on the field. The Blaugrana have done plenty of that too. Only a couple clubs have won as many titles as Barcelona both domestically and internationally. Barcelona has won 25 league championships, 30 Copa del Rey titles, and 12 Spanish SuperCups. They have won more of the latter two competitions than any other club in Spain and trail only Real Madrid in terms of league titles.

Barcelona have had an incredible amount of success in European competition too. It took a long time before Barcelona was continually in the Champions League, but now the club is synonymous with the competition. They have won five Champions League titles, tied for the fourth-most of any club in Europe. The club has had success in lesser tournaments too, winning a record four UEFA Cup Winners Cup titles and three Inter-Cities Fairs Cups too. Both of those competitions no longer exist, so Barca will hold that distinction forever.

The club’s first Champions League title came in 1992. They were able to erase the demons of six years prior when they came up just short against Staeua Bucharest, by beating Sampdoria 1-0 in extra time. Ronald Koeman was the hero that day, and he will be forever ensconced in Barcelona lore.

Odds on Barcelona to win the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League: +450

2018-19 Champions League -

The arrival of Lionel Messi sent Barcelona into the stratosphere. Messi has been the most successful player in club history by any measure, and he has led the club to four Champions League titles. He is also the club’s all-time leading scorer with an incredible 383 goals in 418 appearances for Barcelona.

However, Barcelona have not had the success expected of them in the last three years. The Blaugrana have been dumped by Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Roma in the quarterfinals in recent years, despite being favored in all three ties. The loss to Roma last season was particularly heartbreaking, as the club had won the first leg of their tie 4-1 only to lose on the away goals rule after a shock 3-0 defeat in Rome.

Barcelona come into this year’s Champions League as one of the favorites once more. The club has acquired Ousmane Dembele, Malcom, Clement Lenglet, and Arthur this offseason and the goal is clear. Win the Champions League or bust.
