Manchester City F.C. UEFA Champions League Odds
Manchester City don’t have the history or the tradition that many of the other Champions League clubs do. However, they are one of the favorites coming into this year’s competition, and they will be looking to win their first-ever Champions League title.
Until a decade ago, Manchester City lived in the shadow of city rival Manchester United. United dominated the Manchester Derby and were one of the blue bloods of England. New ownership flipped the traditional dynamic on its head though. Since Manchester City were purchased by Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, they have been one of the top teams in England every season.
Manchester City have won five league titles, and three of those five top of the table finishes have come during this decade. Additionally, three of their five league cup victories have happened this decade, and two of their five FA Community Shield wins as well. The only domestic competition that they have not won more of in recent years is the FA Cup. The Citizens have won five FA Cups over their history, but only one of those has come this decade.
This club is ready for European success. They have only won one European competition, and that win came all the way back in 1970. Manchester City upended Polish side Gornik Zabrze for the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup that season, but they have failed to reach the finals of any tournament since that win. However, this is the most successful the club has ever been. They have made it to European play more times this decade than they had in all prior seasons combined.

Last year, Manchester City were able to win a double with the most dominant performance we have seen so far in the Premier League era. The Citizens were able to hoist the league cup, and they had essentially bolted down the Premier League before Christmas too.
Manchester City set numerous records on their way to the Premier League crown. They finished with a sterling 32-4-2 record, becoming the first team to ever reach 100 points in this era. Additionally, they scored more goals than any other team in Premier League history, and City set the record for goal differential and point differential in a campaign as well.
With the Premier League on lockdown, City set its sights on Champions League glory. They were one of the favorites to win, but they were surprisingly upended by a Liverpool team that had been a thorn in their side in the Premier League too. This year, the club is looking to erase the memory of last year’s bitter defeat.
After such a strong performance last year, Pep Guardiola did not feel the need to do much with his club. They have brought back all of their starters, and they don’t want to upset a potentially winning dynamic.
The one big move Manchester City did make was to bring on Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City. Mahrez is one of the flashiest players in the Premier League, and City paid a pretty penny to pry him away from Leicester.
The club is hoping to stay healthier this year too. Their run last year was made all the more impressive by how many players they were missing due to injury and getting more fortunate on this end would certainly help. However, City sent more players to the World Cup than any other club, and they do not want to tax them early on.
