Paris Saint-Germain F.C. UEFA Champions League Odds
It’s taken a while for Paris Saint Germain to achieve its potential, but the club finally seems to be realizing what it can be. The club is extremely young by European standards. PSG was founded in 1970, and they first made it to Ligue 1 in 1974. To date, they have never been relegated from Ligue 1, and they are the only French club to have avoided relegation for their entire history.
Even though they are less than 50 years old, PSG is the most successful club in French soccer history. The club has won 34 trophies in domestic play over the years, winning seven Ligue 1 titles, twelve French Cups, seven Champions Trophies, and eight League Cups.
Paris Saint Germain is one of only two French teams to win a European title too. The club has won two European trophies, claiming the Europa League in 1996 and the Intertoto Cup in 2002. On their way to the 1996 Europa League title, PSG knocked off Parma, Deportivo La Coruna, and Rapid Wien.
Ownership has been the driving force behind the club’s turn of fortune. Qatar Sports Investments bought the club in 2011, and they have sunk hundreds of millions of dollars into PSG since the purchase. That has led to them winning five of the last six Ligue 1 titles, and over the past five seasons they have won two triples and three quadruples.

Paris Saint Germain has broken the bank in order to achieve Champions League glory. The club has had no problem rising to the top of French football, but success in the most prestigious club tournament continues to elude them. In spite of the gobs of money the club has spent over the last five seasons, their best Champions League performance was back in 1995 when they made it to the Semifinals. They have been unable to get past the Quarterfinals in any of the past five seasons.
The names that have come through the club in recent years are incredible. PSG shelled out an absurd amount of money to bring in Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Edinson Cavani.years ago. Luiz and Ibrahimovic parted ways with the club a couple years ago, but Silva and Cavani are still there.
Those acquisitions raised the ire of UEFA who fined the club an incredible 60 million Euros for violated their financial fair play rules. PSG paid the fine and immediately made waves again last summer by making the two biggest acquisitions in sports history. The club spent 222 million Euros to acquire Neymar from Barcelona and followed that up by spending 180 million Euros to bring Kylian Mbappe in from Monaco. It is likely they will have to pay an even bigger fine this time around after those acquisitions.
Facing even more scrutiny, the club has decided to keep things low key this offseason. The biggest move they made was adding Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus, and he came over as a free transfer. PSG are hoping that Buffon still has something left in the tank, but this team is still a threat to win it all even if he doesn’t start a match.
