Valencia CF UEFA Champions League Odds
It’s not easy to succeed in Spanish football, but Valencia have made it work over the last 100 years. Valencia is the third-most popular team in Spain, behind the two heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona, and they have remained competitive in La Liga despite the dominance of the latter two clubs over the past two decades.
Valencia has won a number of trophies over the years. The club has been able to win six league titles, the last of which came in 2004, seven Copa del Reys, and one Spanish Supercup. They have only spent one season outside of La Liga since being first promoted in 1931, and Valencia was able to crush the competition in Segunda Division to immediately win promotion back to the top flight.
This club is no stranger to winning big in European play. Valencia won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in consecutive seasons in the early 1960s, and they claimed both the European Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Supercup in 1980. It took a while for The Bats to win more European honors, but they were able to win the Intertoto Cup in 1998 and made it to the Champions League final in consecutive seasons in 2000 and 2001.
Valencia’s last European trophies came in 2004. That year the club was able to win the Europa League and the UEFA Supercup. Valencia has made it to the Europa League Semifinals twice this decade, but they were upended by domestic rivals Atletico Madrid and Sevilla with a spot in the finals on the line.

This is Valencia’s first foray into European play in three seasons. The Bats finished outside of the top half of the table in both 2016 and 2017, but they were able to claim fourth place in La Liga last year to make it to the Champions League. Valencia made it to the Copa Del Rey semifinals as well, but they were upended by Barcelona there.
Valencia boasted one of the top offenses in Spanish football last year, notching 65 goals over the span of 38 matches. Three different players ended the season with a dozen or more goals. Rodrigo led all scorers with 19 goals in all competitions, and he was followed by Santi Mina who notched 15 goals and Simone Zaza who tallied 13 goals. All three return this season, making this one of the more dangerous attacks.
The Bats made some key pick-ups this offseason in order to strengthen their side for a run at the Champions League. Valencia picked up some capital by allowing right back Joao Cancelo to sign with Juventus this offseason. Cancelo is talented, but he was loaned out to Serie A last season and was not part of the team that rallied to get back to the Champions League.
Valencia used that money to snare Cristiano Piccini from Sporting Lisbon to fill that role, and they made a few other big moves too. The club was able to get promising young center back Mouctar Diakhaby from Olympique Lyon, and they also picked up center midfielders Geoffrey Kondogbia and Daniel Wass as well.
