CD Leganes Spanish La Liga Odds
The slow rise of Leganes has been an inspiration to small football clubs across Spain. For a good portion of its history, Leganes played outside of the Spanish league system, instead playing in fifth- and sixth-tier football. It wasn’t until 1977 that the club finally stuck the landing and cemented a spot in national-level football, and they have moved up the ladder since that point.
Leganes vacillated between Segunda Division and Segunda Division B for quite a while before a breakthrough season in 2015-16 landed the club a spot in La Liga. Prior to that season, they had never finished higher than 8th in the Segunda Division, but they were able to nab second place and won promotion. The last two seasons have been about staying afloat, and Leganes has been successful in that department, but they have finished just one place ahead of relegation in each of those years.

Last year was the most successful season in Leganes’ history. The club finished in 17th place in La Liga, but they were clear of relegation by 14 points and felt safe for the entire season. Additionally, Leganes had their best Copa del Rey finish ever. They made it to the semifinals of the competition, besting Real Valladolid, Villarreal, and Real Madrid on its way to that point.
The goal is simple in 2018-19. Stay alive. The club lost star left back Diego Rico to Bournemouth during the summer window, and they are once again relying on free transfers and loaned players in order to survive. Keep an eye on Guido Carillo. Manager Mauricio Pellegrino is keen on him, having brought him to Southampton in a big deal before he was sacked. Carillo is likely to feature up front for Leganes.
