Germany National Team World Cup Betting
The strongest group at the World Cup was essentially guaranteed to be the one that Germany was in after the Germans were a Pot 2 team for the World Cup draw. The four-time World Cup champions were extremely disappointing at the 2018 World Cup and 2020 European Championships, leading to Germany not being a Pot 1 team. Germany was drawn into a group with continental rival Spain, and those teams are two of the top six favorites by the World Cup betting odds to win it all in Qatar this year.

History at the World Cup
Appearances: 19 (first in 1934)
Best Result: Champions (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014)
There’s a strong case to be made that a unified Germany would have more World Cup titles than Brazil. Germany has been one of the top four teams at the World Cup on 13 occasions, and the Germans have claimed four World Cups and finished runner-up four times.
The first World Cup for Germany was its most controversial. Everyone considered Hungary the best team at the competition in 1954, and Hungary hammered Germany 8-3 in the Group Stage. Both teams made the knockout rounds, and there was eventually a rematch in the final. Hungary scored twice in the first eight minutes, but then Germany used some rough and tumble tactics to level the match. The Germans continued to be physical in the rain, while Hungary hit the post on three attempts before Helmut Rahn scored the game-winner for Die Mannschaft in the 84th minute.
Germany finished runner-up to England in 1966 and earned a third-place finish at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico before its next World Cup title. The Germans hosted the 1974 World Cup, and they only lost to East Germany on their way to the title.
Back-to-back runner-up finishes in 1982 and 1986 could have dissuaded the Germans, but they roared back to win the 1990 World Cup in Italy. They didn’t lose a match on the way to the championship and allowed just two goals in four games during the knockout round.
The last World Cup win for Germany came in 2014. Germany survived a scare from Algeria in the Round of 16 before beating France in the quarterfinals. That set up a showdown with host Brazil in the semifinals. In what became known as the Mineirazo, Brazil suffered its biggest loss in almost 100 years. Germany hammered Brazil 7-1 thanks to five goals in the first 30 minutes, and then the Germans bested Argentina in the finals.
What to Watch
Joachim Low is gone after 15 years at the helm of Germany. The country’s poor performance in 2018 and at the Euros last year led to Low stepping away, allowing former assistant Hansi Flick to run the squad.
Flick will have one of the most talented teams in the world in his hands. However, he could have a tough decision to make in net as captain Manuel Neuer is 36 years old and is no longer the undisputed best goalkeeper in the world. Marc-Andre ter Stegen has played well, and he could end up being the first-choice keeper.
Mats Hummels is the anchor in the back line for Germany, and the midfield should be one of the best units at this World Cup. Ilkay Gundogan, Kai Havertz, Joshua Kimmich, Julian Draxler, Marco Reus, and Leon Goretzka can all make things happen, and it will be tough to settle on who will make the starting eleven.
Thomas Muller will be the primary forward, while Timo Werner and Leroy Sane complement him up top. The oft-injured Serge Gnabry can also play a factor too for Germany.
