2022 FIFA World Cup Group B Betting
There are a lot of political storylines in Group B of the 2022 World Cup. Iran will take on geopolitical rivals England and the United States, a Black Friday showdown between the US and England figures to be the most watched international soccer game in US history, and the fourth team in this group will either be Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine. That will add a big layer of intrigue to this group.
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will begin on Monday, November 21 and run through the final on Sunday, December 18. All the action can be seen on FOX or FS1.
World Cup Group B Betting Odds and Preview
The Three Lions are one of the biggest favorites to win their group of the top teams in Qatar. England is seen as the second or third favorite to win the World Cup along with France and behind five-time World Cup champions Brazil. Gareth Southgate has become a national hero for what we have seen from England in their last two major international competitions as they finished runner-up at the 2020 European Championships and made it to the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup. That has led to England thinking it could win the World Cup for the second time.
There is no doubt that England is the most talented team in this group. Captain Harry Kane has been in fine form, and Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford are excellent second strikers. The back line is exceptionally strong as John Stones and Harry Maguire are a formidable tandem.
The fourth team in this group will either be Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine. Wales has the advantage as they already knocked off Austria and will be hosting either Scotland or Ukraine in Cardiff for this spot. The game between Scotland and Ukraine has had to be postponed until June because of the ongoing war with Russia, and it will take place in Glasgow on June 1.
We will see the United States at the World Cup again after the Stars and Stripes missed the 2018 World Cup. They are likely going to duke it out with the UEFA Path A winner for the second spot out of Group B, and they have had moderate international success in recent international competitions. The reigning Gold Cup champions have had some trouble scoring goals at times, but the back line has largely been solid.
Iran will have a hard time getting to the knockout rounds of the 2022 World Cup. Team Melli has never made it to the knockout rounds in five previous trips to the World Cup, and Iran has won just two matches. Their first win was against the United States at the 1998 World Cup, but the Stars and Stripes are no longer running a 3-6-1. Iran only scored two goals at the last World Cup, and they both came after the 90th minute. One goal was an own goal and the second goal was off a penalty.
