2022 FIFA World Cup Group E Betting
There is no true Group of Death at the 2022 World Cup. The closest thing to a Group of Death is Group E as Spain and Germany were thrown into the same group. They are heavy favorites to be the two teams to make it into the Round of 16, but we have seen them both fall flat in the Group Stage in the very recent past. That gives Japan some hope that it can make the knockout rounds for the fourth time.
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will begin on Monday, November 21 and run through the final on Sunday, December 18. All the action can be seen on FOX or FS1.
World Cup Group E Betting Odds and Preview
Spain was the best team in the world last decade. La Roja were one of the best international teams we’ve ever seen in a five year span, claiming the 2008 European Championship, 2010 World Cup, and 2012 European Championship. They collapsed at the 2014 World Cup and only started to right the ship at the last World Cup, but they are ready to compete once more. Spain made it to the semifinals of the 2020 Euros and only lacks a clinical finisher. If Alvaro Morata or Ferran Torres can fill that role, they will be a real threat in Qatar.
No country has made it to the semifinals of the World Cup more often than Germany. They have been one of the final four teams 13 times, resulting in four World Cup triumphs. Germany finished no worse than third place in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 before completely collapsing in 2018 by failing to make it out of the Group Stage. That led to the team parting ways with Joachim Low, and Hansi Flick became the manager of Germany in August. There is an incredible amount of talent on the roster, so Germany is among the World Cup favorites.
Few teams have been as consistent as Japan at the World Cup. Samurai Blue will be making their seventh straight trip to the World Cup, and they have alternated winless appearances that have seen them eliminated in the Group Stage with trips to the Round of 16. Japan was knocked out without a win in 1998, 2006, and 2014, but the Japanese were able to make the knockout rounds in 2002, 2010, and 2018. They are hoping to finally break that streak in 2022, but they are longshots to make the Round of 16.
The fourth team in this group will either be Costa Rica or New Zealand. These two teams will meet in Doha for the last spot on June 14, and the Ticos are considered favorites as Oceania is by far the weakest regional confederation. Costa Rica had a magical run to the quarterfinals at the 2014 World Cup, winning the Group of Death over Uruguay, Italy, and England.
