2022 FIFA World Cup Group G Betting
The runaway favorite to win Group G at the 2022 World Cup is Brazil. The most decorated team in World Cup history is the overall favorite to lift the trophy once again, but they have failed to secure a World Cup title since 2002. Brazil has made it out of the Group Stage of every World Cup since 1966, and they have made it further than the Round of 16 in seven straight competitions.
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will begin on Monday, November 21 and run through the final on Sunday, December 18. All the action can be seen on FOX or FS1.
World Cup Group G Betting Odds and Preview
Brazil needs no introduction given their success on the world stage. Their five World Cup titles are a record, and they also fielded the greatest player of all-time in Pele. They have not made the World Cup Finals since their last title in 2002 though. Brazil has been bounced in the quarterfinals in three of the last four World Cups, and they were dismantled by Germany in the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup. That has Neymar and company especially eager to add a sixth star to Brazil’s crest, and Brazil was dominant in qualifying. There are questions about the back line though as Thiago Silva and Dani Alves are both in their late 30s.
We have seen Switzerland make it to the knockout rounds of three of the last four World Cups. The Swiss are seen as the second team that will make it out of this group, but stars Granit Xhaka, Haris Seferovic, and Xherdan Shaqiri will be on the wrong side of 30 for this World Cup. That means younger players like Breel Embolo and Denis Zakaria will have to play better.
Serbia has been disappointing at the World Cup ever since the breakup of Yugoslavia. They have failed to make it out of the Group Stage in three straight competitions, and they were paired in the same group as Brazil and Switzerland at the 2018 World Cup. Serbia lost a late lead to Switzerland and never had a chance to beat Brazil in their matchup. All-time leading goal scorer Aleksandr Mitrovic is out to have more success after finding the back of the net just one time at the last World Cup, and this squad does have a strong midfield.
The first African team to make the World Cup Quarterfinals was Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions were able to knock off Argentina and Romania to win their group at the 1990 World Cup, and they defeated Colombia in the Round of 16 before losing in extra time to England in the quarterfinals. Cameroon has made it to the World Cup more often than any other African team, but they failed to make it out of the Group Stage in six of their seven previous appearances. Former great Rigobert Song is the current head coach for Cameroon.
