The TCU Horned Frogs and West Virginia Mountaineers will meet for just the seventh time ever this week. The Ohio State Buckeyes have not been the superpower that we have come to expect. Yes, Ohio State wiped the floor with Rutgers last week, but the Buckeyes were dominated by Oklahoma and trailed Indiana at halftime of their opener. They have looked better in recent weeks, but haven’t defeated anyone of consequence. Now, Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes will get a decent test when the Maryland Terrapins come to town....
Mike Riley has one of the hottest seats in football right now. The Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach has not had a good start to the season. Although the Cornhuskers are 2-0 in conference play, those two wins have come against the dregs of the Big Ten, Rutgers and Illinois. Now, they have to play the best team in the Big Ten West in the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers are the team to beat in the division after a big win over Northwestern last week, and an upset win for Nebraska here could potentially save Riley’s job....
Sparty On! After a disastrous 2016 season, the Michigan State Spartans are back to their old winning ways under Mark Dantonio. The Spartans are 3-1 on the season and are fresh off of a big win over Iowa last week. In that game, they jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, and then held on in the second half for a 17-10 win. This week we will see if Michigan State is for real. They will travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines for the Paul Bunyan Trophy....
The Washington Huskies are looking like the best team in the PAC 12 once again in 2017. Last year, Washington went 12-1 and easily won the PAC 12 title over Colorado before getting waxed by Alabama in the College Football Playoff. Despite prognosticators picking USC to win the PAC 12 at the start of the season, the Huskies are the best team in the conference through September. They are 5-0 and haven’t been tested all season, but haven’t faced an offense like the California Golden Bears yet either....

Over the past two decades, two of the best non-power conferences have been the Boise State Broncos and the BYU Cougars. These two schools have continually fared very well against the blue bloods of college football, and both were expected to be solid yet again in 2017. However, both of these teams have been disappointments this season. BYU has one of the worst offenses in the nation, while Boise State has not impressed thus far. The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to continue their string of solid performances after a bye week. The Memphis Tigers must be a little shell-shocked after last week’s performance against UCF. In their first road game of the season, Memphis got boatraced off the field, in a 40-13 loss. The Tigers were listless on offense and turned the ball over four times. The loss ruined Memphis’ undefeated start to the season, and now the Tigers are looking for someone to take it out on. The USC Trojans have failed to impress all season long. They have been regarded as one of the four or five best teams in the country every week, but did little to earn that esteem with their on the field play. USC finally played poorly enough to lose last week on the road in Pullman. Washington State was able to make this team pay for Sam Darnold’s poor play, holding USC’s offense down just enough to get the win. The Clemson Tigers look destined to go back to the College Football Playoff. The second-best team in what is perhaps the best division in football will be determined on Thursday night when the Louisville Cardinals take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack. With Florida State struggling and Clemson dominating, both Louisville and North Carolina State have an outside chance at a New Year’s Day Bowl bid. Each team is 4-1 coming into this game and ranked in the AP Top 25, but a loss will likely send one of the two careening out of the rankings....

They have yet to play a conference game, but are likely still one of the favorites despite being 1-2. This team almost knocked off Nebraska in Lincoln in its season opener and hammered Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Wolves will open their conference slate this week against the lowly Georgia Southern Eagles, who look like one of the worst teams in all of FBS through the first month of the season....
A couple of teams off humiliating losses in their respective Pac-12 openers will return to the field on Saturday night when the Colorado Buffaloes invade Tinseltown looking to hand the UCLA Bruins a third straight defeat. For the visitors to be competitive in this matchup, it will need the offense to consistently put points on the board against what’s proven to be a very bad Bruins defense. Things haven’t gone quite as planned for Larry Fedora and the North Carolina Tar Heels in dropping three of their first four games which includes losing each of their first two ACC contests. The Vanderbilt Commodores learned the hard way last week that defense can only take you so far. At some point, you need to put points on the board and that’s something they failed to do in a blowout loss to Alabama. The No. 21 Florida Gators return home fresh off their 31st straight victory over the Kentucky Wildcats. Notre Dame is at home and a huge favorite in this matchup as it has the clear talent advantage.
