Old School Meets New School
The Oklahoma State Cowboys look like one of the scariest offenses in the country heading into this one. Mason Rudolph and company have blitzed the competition this season, blowing out both Tulsa and South Alabama on the strength of a top-notch passing game. They will be heading to the Steel City to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers this Saturday. It will be a rematch of last season’s tilt between these two sides in Stillwater. This matchup in Week 3 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017,at 12 p.m. ET at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This game will be broadcast on ESPN....
The UTEP Miners are offensively challenged. UTEP has scored just 21 points over its first two games and while its first opponent was Oklahoma, the second team they faced was Rice. The Miners couldn’t move the ball on the ground or through the air on either and it’s doubtful they will against the Arizona Wildcats on Friday night. Arizona is looking to take out revenge on a Texas school after falling to Houston last week and UTEP happens to be the unlucky next team up.This matchup in Week 3 of the regular season will take place on Friday, September 15, 2017,at 10 p.m. ET at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. This game will be broadcast on ESPN....
Jim Harbaugh isn’t playing around this year. The Michigan Wolverines weren’t considered one of the favorites in the Big Ten this season with all the turnover on the roster, but have looked like the best team in the conference through two games. Michigan has a no-nonsense defense and an offense that does just enough and that’s a formula that can get you far. This team will welcome the Air Force Falcons on Saturday and look to keep up their winning ways. This matchup in Week 3 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017,at 12 p.m. ET at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network....
For as heated of a basketball rivalry as this is, the Massachusetts Minutemen and the Temple Owls have only met on the football field once. Temple squeaked past UMass 25-23 two seasons ago in a game that was much closer than people expected. The Owls needed a last second field goal in order to get the win, but the close loss sent a message that UMass football was legit. Now UMass gets a chance to claim a signature program building win against a close rival....
It seems unlikely that the game between the Illinois Fighting Illini and the South Florida Bulls will be played in Tampa, if it’s played at all. Hurricane Irma is currently ravaging the entire state of Florida and Tampa has been one of the hardest hit cities. With expected road closures and power outages for the next week, don’t be surprised to see the venue of this game shift. Illinois has offered to host and these two teams might just end up playing in Champaign when it’s all said and done....
Neither the New Mexico Lobos nor the Boise State Broncos entered Mountain West play the way they wanted to. For as much as Bob Davie has done to change the culture of the program in Albuquerque, he can’t consistently beat New Mexico’s younger brother in-state. The Aggies again got the better of the Lobos in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Meanwhile, Boise State suffered a heartbreaker against Washington State. The Broncos were done in by a combination of turnovers, bad luck, and poor defense down the stretch and will look to fix that before MWC action starts in earnest....
For the second straight week, it looks like very little football will be played in the state of Florida. One of the premier football games of Week 3 has already been postponed due to Hurricane Irma, as Florida State and Miami will now meet on October 7. Other games throughout the southeast are expected to be cancelled or postponed in the aftermath of the biggest storm in the history of the Atlantic Ocean....
BYU is coming off a shutout loss to No. 13 LSU and will play No. 9 Wisconsin left. After beating Portland State in the opener, the Cougars would feel pretty good about going 2-2 through four games, but it won’t be easy.Utah knocked off North Dakota pretty easily in its opener but this will be a different type of test. The Utes must manage a tough environment against an old rival to emerge victorious....
The Stanford Cardinal started the season down under, defeating Rice 62-7 in a game held in Sydney, Australia two weeks ago. After a week off, the team should be well rested entering this big Pac-12 matchup against the USC Trojans in Week 2 of the college football campaign. The Trojans are also 1-0 on the season after defeating Western Michigan 49-31 in the season opener last week. USC struggled to take control until late and must be much sharper in this matchup against a talented opponent. The conference is hard to figure at this point but if either team dominates this game it could be the one to beat moving forward....
The Arizona State Sun Devils are looking for a bounce-back season. Arizona State missed the postseason for the first time under Todd Graham last year after free-falling at the end of 2016. The Sun Devils started 5-1, but then lost six straight to close out the year. Now, before traveling to face Texas Tech in what’s sure to be a shootout, the Sun Devils must face a team that plays a very different style of offense in the San Diego State Aztecs.Kickoff for this regular season Week 2 game is set for Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 11 p.m.ET at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This game will be broadcast on PAC 12 Network....
Oregon State got thrashed by Colorado State in its opener and then barely held on to beat Portland State last week. Minnesota is 1-0 but only defeated Buffalo by a score of 17-7 in its opener despite being a heavy favorite. These teams are in rebuilding mode and could have trouble picking up wins in conference play, but the talent levels are close enough that this one could go either way....
The Cougars have a talented team and there’s no question they can compete against this Pac-12 foe, but it’s fair to wonder if the trauma from the hurricane in their home town has taken its toll. Arizona does not look strong this season but gets this game at home and will aim to take care of business in a contest the oddsmakers have pegged as a virtual coin-flip.This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 10:30 p.m. ET at Arizona Stadium....
Although the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are two of the most storied programs in college football, this will be the first time that they meet on the field. Georgia comes into this game with a chip on its shoulder after starting quarterback Jacob Eason went down with an injury last week. Eason hurt his ankle in the win over Appalachian State and there is no timetable for his return. As for Notre Dame, the Irish have a decent quarterback in Brandon Wimbush, but no one behind him.Kickoff for this regular season Week 2 game is set for Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.ET at Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana. This game will be broadcast on NBC....
Washington State hopes to be a player in the Pac-12 this year while the Broncos figure to once again be among the cream of the crop in the Mountain West. Even though Boise State is from a smaller conference it has long been a thorn in the side of bigger foes. However, Washington State is a solid team and will enter this matchup as the clear favorite. The Cougars can really turn some heads if they can easily dispatch Boise State at home....
The first week of Big 10 football is in the books and it was an impressive start from top to bottom. The Maryland Terrapins, who were picked dead last in the conference, pulled off a huge upset by putting up 51 points on No. 23 Texas and winning by ten points.Powerhouses Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan all were victorious. The Buckeyes got off to a slow start against Indiana but rolled in the second half and won going away, 49-21. Wisconsin thumped Utah State 59-10. Penn State shutout Akron 52-0 and the Wolverines shut down Florida, 33-17 in a battle of top 20 teams....
College GameDay heads to Columbus for the Top 10 matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners this week. Ohio State didn’t look like the No. 2 team in the nation in the first half against Indiana last Thursday. The Buckeyes couldn’t get their offense moving and were actually down a point at the break. However, they turned it on in the second half, outscoring the Hoosiers 36-7 and cruising after that. Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s first game under Lincoln Riley was a successful one. The Sooners and Baker Mayfield tore up UTEP’s defense and OSU completed 32 of 36 passes as a whole. Now it’s time for a rematch of last year’s hyped battle....
The South Carolina Gamecocks started their season with a bang. With all the talk about North Carolina State’s sleeper status prior to their meeting, you’d think the Gamecocks were considered a pushover. Will Muschamp’s boys came out with something to prove and ended up pulling off the upset against the Wolfpack. Now there are a lot of people expecting them to do well against their second opponent of the season, the Missouri Tigers....
The Clemson Tigers are looking to become the first team to win back-to-back national championships since Alabama did it in 2011-12. Clemson was able to prevent Alabama from repeating as champions last season and got off to a great start in its quest to become the first ACC school to accomplish the feat. The Auburn Tigers, themselves hailed as a national title contender in 2017, will aim to prevent that from happening....
Chalk up another big win for the juggernaut known as the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama was dominant on defense against Florida State in one of the most highly anticipated early season games in recent memory. The Crimson Tide flew around the field and left head coach Jimbo Fisher scratching his head on more than one occasion. Now, Alabama gets a much easier FSU this weekend when the Fresno State Bulldogs come to Alabama. This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017,at 3:30 p.m. ET at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This game will be broadcast on ESPN2....
The Willie Taggart era is off to a great start in Oregon. The Oregon Ducks ripped Southern Utah in its season opener and now hopes are high heading into the second week of the season. They will face much stiffer competition in the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska had trouble distancing itself from Arkansas State in its season opener and was happy to just escape with a win at the end of the day. It’s another ominous start to the Mike Riley era in Lincoln. This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017,at 4:30 p.m. ET at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. This game will be broadcast on FOX....
The TCU Horned Frogs are going to be out for revenge when they face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks in this Week 2 matchup. The Horned Frogs were down 20-7 to the Razorbacks heading into the fourth quarter when these teams met last year, but roared back to take a 28-20 lead with just two minutes left. Arkansas ended up forcing overtime and pulled it out in the extra frame after Austin Allen ran it in from five yards out. It was a tough loss for TCU and took the team from No. 15 to unranked in the AP Poll. This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017,at 3:30 p.m. ET at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This game will be broadcast on CBS....
Both the Tulane Green Wave and Navy Midshipmen got off to a solid start in 2017. Navy was able to handle Florida Atlantic and the weather in its season opener, while Tulane dismissed the naysayers who thought that Grambling could give them a game with a dominant performance. This will be the first conference game for both teams, but while Navy is looking to compete for a division title once again, Tulane would be happy if it just got back to a bowl game this season....
The Penn State Nittany Lions enter 2017 as one of the most hyped teams in the country. Big things are expected for the Nittanies this year after they burst on the scene in what was considered a make or break year for James Franklin in 2016. They ended up reaching the Rose Bowl and had a wildly successful season, but the low point was undoubtedly when they lost to the Pittsburgh Panthers in the second week of the 2016 campaign. Now they get a chance for revenge.Watch this regular season Week 2 matchup live on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. This game will be broadcast on ABC....
The Purdue Boilermakers had a very promising start under new head coach Jeff Brohm. Purdue was expected to get creamed by Louisville and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson, but made it a game and only lost by a touchdown at the end. Now there is real hope in Purdue for the first time in the past few years, but now they must navigate a very tricky opponent in their second game of the season, the Ohio Bobcats. This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Friday, September 8, 2017, at 8p.m. ET at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. This game will be broadcast on FS1....
It was by and large a bad day for the ACC in the first week of the college football season. Two of the teams that personified that were the Louisville Cardinals the North Carolina Tar Heels. Louisville struggled with Purdue and was actually down in the fourth quarter at one point before rallying for a seven-point victory. Things were worse for North Carolina, who lost to a Cal team that was in absolute turmoil just a few months ago.Watch this regular season Week 2 matchup live on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 12 p.m. ETat Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This game will be broadcast on ESPN....
