The Rocky Mountain Showdown has been extremely competitive over the last two decades. Although the Colorado Buffaloes lead the series all-time with a record of 64-22-2, the Colorado State Rams have won seven of the last 18 meetings. The Army Black Knights are fresh off of their best season in two decades. For just the second time during that stretch, they went to a bowl game and finished with an 8-5 record. There’s a lot of buzz in the air surrounding Lane Kiffin’s first game with the Florida Atlantic Owls. Say what you want about Kiffin, but he’s entertaining and typically gets results. Many are calling for Florida Atlantic to be one of the most improved teams in the country in his first season in Boca Raton and even if he spends only one year here, he will probably leave the program in good shape. The Badgers have much more talent and it’s going to be hard for Utah State to get going offensively against such a strong defensive unit. Wisconsin’s fate is eventually going to be decided in how it does during conference games, but the way it performs in this one could be a harbinger of things to come.Wisconsin does have some new players in key positions, and this will be a good game to iron out any wrinkles before the schedule gets tougher.... 

The Washington Huskies were a trendy pick to make some noise in 2016 and they surpassed everyone’s expectations with a season that ended with a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Huskies couldn’t overcome Alabama in the national semifinal, but it was still a successful season and proof that head coach Chris Petersen was the right man for the job. Washington will start this season just like it did last season, with a game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.... 

The Penn State Nittany Lions enter the season with high expectations and one of the best running backs in the game. They will look to improve upon last year’s breakout season this year, starting the season off with a home game against the Akron Zips.... 

The Michigan State Spartans face-planted in 2016, stumbling to a 3-9 record after years of being in the mix in the Big Ten. They are hoping for a quick turnaround this season to prove that was just a fluke. Michigan State shouldn’t have any trouble getting off to a fast start in the regular season opener against the Bowling Green Falcons.... 

Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen returned to school for the 2017 season instead of heading to the NFL. He wanted to get more experience before turning professional and will get a tough test in the opener. The Iowa Hawkeyes will host Allen and the Wyoming Cowboys in the season opener for both teams.... 

There always seems to be a notable upset or two of a big college program by a smaller one early in the non-conference season. While the Illinois FIghting Illini isn’t exactly a top-tier program, the Ball State Cardinals would love to go on the road in the regular season opener and pull off the upset.... 

There are a lot of games with big point spreads in the first week of college football action, as many powerhouses load up with easy out-of-conference foes to start. That’s not the case for the matchup between the Boston College Eagles and the Northern Illinois Huskies.... 

It’s that time of the year once again. The leaves are starting to turn and it’s time for college football to fill our Saturdays for the next few months. There are a number of interesting games and storylines for the first full week of the season. Some of these games have seen rather large line movements since they have been up for three months as circumstances and prognostications have shifted odds and perceptions. Let’s look at some of these.... 

Memphis will aim to get off to a hot start in a home game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. The Tigers are the better team and have a star quarterback, which is why they are big-time favorites in this contest. UL-Monroe will have easier games down the road, and it will be a moral victory if they are simply able to keep this matchup somewhat close.The Warhawks return a decent number of players from last year but they weren’t particularly successful, so the hope is an extra year of experience and maturation will result in more wins.... 

Arizona State is trying to become a program that is perennially pushing for a quality bowl game, but Graham has been in a downward spiral after some initial success at the school. ASU is trying to shake off a disappointing 5-7 season in 2016 by turning it around this year.There are questions at quarterback and throughout the secondary, but a game against an inferior New México State program should cure those ills, at least temporary. The Aggies have a fifth-year senior directing the offense, which is a plus, and they hope to score enough points to keep up in what should be a big-time shootout.... 

The Buckeyes have a lot of talent to replace but recruit so well that it shouldn’t be a problem. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the country leading the way and are going to be explosive again offensively. Indiana finished under .500 last season and is one of the lower-tier teams in the Big Ten.The Hoosiers are aiming to make a bowl game this season but it’s almost certain they begin the season with a loss in 2017.... 

An offensive explosion is expected between these two teams and it should be fun for both those in attendance and the fans watching on television from home. Tulsa had an impressive year in 2016 but is still the small-school program in this matchup. Oklahoma State is from the bigger conference and has the better collection of talent. Add in home field advantage and it’s easy to understand why the Cowboys are favored in this matchup.Kickoff for this regular season Week 1 game is set for Thursday, August 31, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Boone Pickens Stadium.... 

UCF rolled to victory in this matchup last year and has proven to be the superior program between these Florida neighbors. The Knights are heavy favorites and seem likely to win this one, although a big spread means if FIU plays well it should cover.... 

The Bulls are traveling to face off with the Minnesota Gophers in the regular season opener for both teams and Minnesota enters as a big-time favorite. The Gophers are from a bigger conference and have grander expectations this season, and will aim to get off to a quick start.This matchup in Week 1 of the regular season will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.... 

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are heading to the mainland to start the season for the first time in five years. Hawaii will play the Massachusetts Minutemen in one of the stranger non-conference games of 2017. These teams met at the tail end of the 2016 season and Hawaii ended up winning a barnburner. It was a needed victory as it assured the Rainbow Warriors of a spot in a bowl game and led to the team getting its first bowl win in a decade.This contest in Week 1 will go down Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 6 p.m. ET at McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Hadley, Massachusetts. This game will be broadcast on FS1.... 

Thank God, college football is finally back! No more yard work, no more chores, now it’s time for you to sit back, relax, and have the college football season wash over you. The season starts with an intriguing matchup between an up-and-coming power conference team, the Oregon State Beavers, and a team that could turn a lot of heads and win the Mountain West, the Colorado State Buffaloes. These two teams have only met twice in their history with each school winning once. The winner will break that all-time deadlock.This contest in Week 1 will go down Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. ET at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. One of the most anticipated games during the first full week of college football will be when the BYU Cougars take on LSU in Houston. However, the Cougars have one game before then, a home opener against the Portland State Vikings. BYU typically doesn’t start the season off with an FCS foe, instead waiting to the middle or the end of the season to play one, but decided to take advantage of the NCAA allowing a few teams to play games on the last weekend of August. This will be the one FBS vs. FCS showdown of this weekend.This contest in Week 1 will go down Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 3 p.m. ET at Lavell Edwards Stadium. This game will be broadcast on ESPN.... 

Tampa is ready for the Charlie Strong era to start. The South Florida Bulls may have lost former head coach Willie Taggart to Oregon in the offseason, but replaced him with the best possible candidate in Strong. Strong will try to keep the momentum going for a program that is finally heading in the right direction again after the disastrous Skip Holtz era. The Bulls first test will come on the road when they head to California to take on the San Jose State Spartans.This contest in Week 1 will go down Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports.... 

For the second straight season, Australia will be the sight of one of the first college football games of the year. Last year, California and Hawaii brought a thrilling style of football to the Down Under. This season, the Stanford Cardinal and Rice Owls will bring a much different version. The game will be played in Allianz Stadium, a traditional rugby venue that will be opening its doors to college football for the first time in its 30-year history this week.This contest in Week 1 will go down Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 10 p.m. ET at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Australia. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.... 

For the first time in six seasons, North Dakota State will not have a chance to win another FCS Championship. The James Madison Dukes took care of that when they went into Fargo and knocked off the favored Bison in the FCS Semifinals a month ago and are now the heavy favorites to win their second FCS Championship ever. They will be taking on the Youngstown State Penguins, a team that also went on the road to defeat a favored opponent, and Youngstown State will be looking for its first tile in 20 years.... 

It’s the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Clemson Tigers in round two as we get a repeat of last year’s National Championship Game except this time, the Tide are even scarier. Nevertheless, both teams are riding high off their respective College Football Playoff victories. Both defenses took care of their respective opponents, but each offense provides new challenges when these two teams collide next week.... 

Last year’s national title game was so good that the best thing to do this season was to play it again. No one is surprised that the Alabama Crimson Tide are here. Alabama has been the favorite to win the national title in most years this decade with the greatest coach in college football history manning the sidelines. The Clemson Tigers making it back here is another story. Many called for Florida State or perhaps Louisville to win the ACC, but Dabo Swinney and the Tigers persevered and find themselves with another chance to knock off the kings of college football....
