NFL Thursday Night Football Betting

A battle between the top two teams in the NFC East opens the betting week when the surprising Washington Commanders visit the Philadelphia Eagles in the Week 11 Thursday Night Football contest. Led by Rookie of the Year favorite Jayden Daniels, the Commanders boast one of the top offenses in the NFL. Showing the poise of a seasoned veteran, Daniels completed 71.5 percent of his passes with only two interceptions through his first nine professional games. And much like his counterpart Jalen Hurts, Daniels has the ability to extend plays and sustain drives using his legs.

The Eagles have dominated the series since the start of the 2021 season winning five of the last six games, though they have just one payout in that span. The Commanders have been a money making machine at the betting window going 7-1-1 ATS and 5-1-2 ATS in the last eight meetings with Philly. Hurts had himself a big day in the most recent meeting throwing for 319 yards and four touchdowns in the Eagles 38-31 win that pushed the line of 7-points. The early line has the Eagles as a 3.5-point favorite which would be the lowest in the last six meetings.

NFL Week 11 Thursday Night Football Betting Odds

Washington Commanders +3.5

Philadelphia Eagles -3.5

Total: 49

Money Line: Commanders +155, Eagles -180

There are some positive trends favoring the Eagles heading into this matchup. The home team on TNF has won the last three weeks while going 6-4 overall with six payouts. And half of the 10 games to this point in the season have been decided by one score. Additionally, the Eagles are used to playing close games with five of their first eight having a margin of five points or less. And the Eagles finished ahead of their opponent on the scoreboard in four of those games.

The key for Philly, though, is avoiding a similar meltdown like they had last season. They were 10-1 and a Super Bowl favorite through Week 12 before the wheels fell off. The Eagles finished the season losing five of six and were annihilated by Tampa Bay, 32-9, in a wild card game. Of those losses four were by at least 17 points. Offseason changes have Philly on another good path with six wins in their first eight games. Saquon Barkley has been a boon to the offense with nearly as many rushing yards through eight games as he had in 14 games last season. He’s also averaging a career-best 5.9 yards per carry.

The ability to effectively run the football has taken pressure off Jalen Hurts. The passing game isn’t as prolific averaging 202.4 yards per game, but it doesn’t have to be. The Eagles are tickling the top 5 in total yards and have averaged 25 points through eight games. Philly swept the season series last year, though the games were close. The Eagles won 34-31 at home in overtime and a few weeks later won 38-31 in Washington. Hurts had 319 passing yards in both games with a total of six TD passes and zero interceptions.

Daniels has invigorated the team and the fanbase with his electric play-making ability. He also won over the remaining few critics by overcoming an injury sustained in the Week 7 win over Carolina. Daniels was removed with a rib injury and his status moving forward was questionable. He did play the following week with one of the most memorable plays in team history. His 52-yard Hail Mary to Noah Brown with no time left sparked the 18-15 win over the Bears, Washington’s sixth victory in seven games.

The biggest concern for Washington is the defense. They give up a lot of yards on the ground and rank in the middle of the pack in total defense. The team formerly known as the Redskins has been strong against the pass, though, and the group may have gotten better with the recent acquisition of CB Marshon Lattimore from the Saints, a clear sign that the club is all in for a run at the NFC East title and much deeper into the playoffs.

Amazon Prime Video gets its first Thursday night game in Week 2 when the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills. These two bitter rivals have shared the same division since 1966. Last year, the Bills overtook the Dolphins on the final day of the 2023 regular season with a 21-14 win in Miami. Miami lost its final two games of the regular season to blow the division title.

In Week 3 another AFC East matchup will be on Prime Video when the New York Jets host the New England Patriots. The Jets and Patriots have shared the same division since 1960 as charter members of the American Football League. Last year, the Patriots reached rock bottom and fired the man who many view as the GOAT of NFL coaches. Bill Belichick is gone, and his assistant, Jerod Mayo, is the new head coach. Owner Robert Kraft wants a more collaborative approach but whether it works or not remains to be seen.

New England took QB Drake Maye third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and it would not be a surprise if Maye cracks the lineup, overtaking Jacoby Brissett, currently #1 on the depth chart.

One of the best and oldest rivalries from the NFC East will be renewed in Week 4 when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants. Head coach Brian Daboll took a huge step back after leading the G-Men to a playoff win in 2022. QB Daniel Jones is also under intense scrutiny after cashing in on the success of the 2022 campaign.

Dallas is Dallas, which means a highly hyped team that is probably not as good as advertised. But owner Jerry Jones is a marketing genius who keeps the Cowboys in the headlines. This year, the focus will be on head coach Mike McCarthy and QB Dak Prescott, who could both be in the final season of their time in Dallas. Jones is friends with Bill Belichick, who will be rumored to take over for McCarthy every time something goes wrong. Dak Prescott is in the option year of his contract, with Trey Lance waiting in the wings. McCarthy and Prescott are under fire for past playoff failures.

In Week 6, the Seattle Seahawks will host the San Francisco 49ers in renewal of what, at times, is the hottest rivalry in the NFC West. Seattle has a new head coach, Mike Macdonald, who replaces long time HC Pete Carroll. Macdonald made his hones as a defensive coordinator with the Michigan Wolverines and the Baltimore Ravens. Seattle took a step back in 2023 and is eager to rebound.
