Old School Meets New School
Since taking over the program, Seth Littrell has had a lot of success with the North Texas Mean Green. He has taken the Mean Green to three straight bowl appearances, and Littrell has been the best coach we have seen in Denton since Darrell Dickey took North Texas to four straight Sun Belt titles. The only thing Littrell hasn’t done is win a bowl game, and he is out to do that in the
The North Carolina A&T Aggies didn’t finish the season undefeated like they did last year, but they still have a chance to make history when they take on the Alcorn State Braves in this year’s Celebration Bowl. The Aggies have won two of the last three Celebration Bowls, and a victory here would give them three win in four years. The Celebration Bowl pits the winner of the MEAC against the winner of the SWAC and has determined which Division I school wins the HBCU national championship since...
Only four bluebloods remain alive in the quest to be declared national champions. At this point, the process is old hat for both Clemson and Alabama. Alabama has made it to here in all five seasons the College Football Playoff has been an existence, and Clemson has made it to the last four. The Crimson Tide have gone is as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in all but one season, while the Tigers have been No. 1 or No. 2 in all four of their appearances....
The Clemson Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are both undefeated on the season, but one is the clear favorite when they face off in the College Football Playoff’s national Semifinals at the end of this month....
The Alabama Crimson Tide will begin its quest to win another national championship with a Semifinal Matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners. Even though Alabama almost lost to Georgia in the SEC championship game, that isn’t making the oddsmakers doubt them much in this one....
The annual Army-Navy game is so huge it needs its own weekend. The 119th tilt between the service academies is the only FBS game played this weekend and all eyes will be on the Cadets as they look for their 10th win of the season and their third straight over the Middies with a chance to claim the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. It’s been a magical season for the Black Knights, who entered the national rankings for the first time since 1996 with a win over Colgate a few weeks ago. Army has won seve...
There are some years in which the college football championship seems like it could go to any of the four teams in the College Football Playoff. This is not one of those years....
Week 14 was derided by many as being meaningless with Conference championship games that were virtual exhibition games with lucrative TV contracts being the only reason for them. But in the Big 12 Conference the championship game proved to be incredibly valuable. Four years ago, the Big 12 was left out of the college football playoff despite having two strong teams in the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs. But the league didn’t have a championship game and was rejected out of hand due to a missi...
It’s a light slate of games on the Week 14 college football schedule as the regular season comes to an end for every team except Army and Navy. But it’s also championship week and all 10 FBS conferences will crown their 2018 titleist over the weekend. With league championships, bowl game implications and College Football Playoff positioning at stake, this is certainly the most important week of the season. We haven’t witnessed any significant movement on the early lines as bettors are likely wai...
The Week 13 Fade the Public Plays ended up cashing in. For the first time in weeks, my plays ended up being profitable, and I even hit a nice moneyline dog to boot. Baylor was a six-point favorite against Texas Tech this weekend, but the Bears won 35-24 to become bowl eligible. The Big 12 proved to be doubly good to me as Kansas covered the spread against Texas in David Beaty’s last game in Lawrence, but the SEC was not so kind. Arkansas never stood a chance of covering against Missouri and put ...
Last week was an unmitigated disaster. Two of my total plays never had a chance, and while I was a bit unlucky with the third, it was still a loss. Losing the under in Florida and Florida State was somewhat unfortunate. The Seminoles couldn’t move the ball against the Gators well at all, and so Florida State’s defense eventually burst in the second half, allowing 28 points to push the game over the total....
It is conference championship week, and even though some of the best teams in college football are playing, there are many games with a large spread. Instead of jumping on them individually, the best idea is to parlay the picks in order to have a better payout....
The list of contenders for the national championship has shrunk, with the Michigan Wolverines out of it after their loss to Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ odds have improved but they still aren’t among the top three. The team to beat, of course, is the Alabama Crimson Tide, which opened the year as the No. 1 team and has done nothing to dispel that notion....
The Boise State Broncos and Fresno State Bulldogs were near mirror images of each other in the regular season. They each went 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain West, and it seems apropos that they will meet for the conference championship crown....
Just one more game. The Clemson Tigers need to win just one more game to make it to the College Football Playoff for the fourth straight year. Although many consider Alabama the gold standard in college football, Clemson has made a strong case for itself over these last few seasons. The Tigers have finished the regular season ranked as one of the top two teams in the country in each of the last three years, and an undefeated year would make it four straight. That’s something Alabama can’t even s...
The nation’s longest winning streak is in serious danger. The Central Florida Knights have won 24 games in a row, but they are headed into their conference championship without their starting quarterback. McKenzie Milton suffered a serious knee injury early in UCF’s 38-10 win over arch-rival USF, and now they must face the Memphis Tigers without him. Memphis gave UCF its toughest test so far this season, only losing to the Knights by just one point in a game many believe the Tigers should have w...
Week 14 will conclude with a Saturday night matchup that is a classic David vs. Goliath situation. The Ohio State Buckeyes rallied last week to put their best game of the year together in a memorable win over the favored Michigan Wolverines. With the victory the Bucks stole the Big Ten East Division title from the Maize and Blue. Meanwhile the opportunistic Northwestern Wildcats captured the West Division title. And while the West Division was weak and down the Wildcats closed strong and get the...
Week 14 includes the biggest championship game of them all. In fact, Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championship Game is a combined rematch of last year’s epic National Championship Game and a potential College Football Playoff preview that could be played yet again next month. The defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide have looked unbeatable all season. Yet the one team tabbed as capable of taking them out are the talented Georgia Bulldogs. Certainly, Alabama and Georgia are the c...
Week 14 includes one of the highest scoring teams in the country with a Heisman Troiphy candidate quarterback that also moonlights as a top draft pick by Major League Baseball’s Oakland A’s. Indeed, Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners are riding high after a shootout win at the West Virginia Mountaineers last week. The problem is that they are half a team without much in the way of defense. The Texas Longhorns are one of the few teams in the Big 12 Conference that actually play defense. Not th...
Week 14 features some conference championship games that may look like sure things for the favorite but could also be potentially dangerous and devastating should the underdog prevail. Then there is the case of the Pac 12 Conference with a classic beaten favorite going up against what looks like an upstart default division champion. The Washington Huskies were pic...
Week 13 was of course touted as “Rivalry Weekend” and justifiably so as many of the best and most historic rivalries did indeed take place. This week we’ll take a look at the implications of week 13 as it was the most relevant week of the college football season so far. Indeed, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines met not just in “The Game” but also a virtual playoff game. Beyond that gamblers were stunned at Ohio State rag-dolling the Maize and Blue. However, that was just one of sev...
It’s time for rivalry games as we reach Week 13 of the regular season college football schedule, also the final weekend that consists of a full slate of games. And with those intense matchups come all kinds of shifts and fluctuations in the lines. We’ve seen a number of contests move by as much as a field goal with several jumping the fence. And we’re likely to see more hectic activity before the games kickoff....
The college football season is coming to an end, and by now it is clear which teams are the best in the country. There are some very intriguing spreads among the large slate of games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. If a bettor is considering making a wager on several different contests, it makes sense to look into parlay picks....
These Fade the Public Plays have not been working out well for me, or for anyone following them. Instead, the public has been cashing ticket after ticket over the last month or so, and that has not been a good thing for this premise. The Week 12 Fade the Public Plays ended up going 1-2, with Pittsburgh and Northwestern easily covering to go against me. However, all of the CFB betting line movement was in my favor, as Wake Forest closed as a 5.5-point underdog and Minnesota ended as the betting f...
For the second straight week, my total plays went 2-1, and again it was an AAC team based in Florida that cost me a shot at a 3-0 week. Two weeks ago, it was UCF that cost me in its win over Navy, but last week USF cost me in a loss to Temple. The Bulls were unable to get much offense going against a Temple defense that had been gashed recently, while their own defense played surprisingly well in a game that ended up sailing under the CFB betting total. Fortunately, my other two plays did hit as...
