For years the Oregon Ducks won games with their fast-break offense racking up arena league numbers. My, how times have changed. Putting the Ducks at the top of the Pac-12 and in the top-three nationally in points per game allowed was unheard of even last season. But the D has been phenomenal allowing single-digit point totals in each of the last five games and winning them all. The Ducks are a 2.5-point favorite on the current college football line and they put their winning streak on the line S...

With six teams currently ranked in the AP poll we’re going to see more games like this one with the SEC schedule kicking into gear. The conference will have a number of marquee games on the weekly docket. The Week 6 SEC game of the week features a pair of unbeatens with No. 7 Auburn Tigers visiting The Swamp to take on No. 10 Florida Gators in a cross-over tilt. The Bronco Mendenhall plan is coming to fruition for the Virginia Cavaliers, who are off to their first 4-0 start since 2004. It’s a Week 4 battle of ranked unbeatens in their Big Ten opener. The Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers are coming off a bye and they’ve taken different routes to get here, but they collide on Saturday with one team getting its first loss of the season. The maize and blue squeaked by Army in overtime in its last contest. Meanwhile, the Badgers have been a big surprise with a pair of victories by a combined score of 110-0 and current college football odds have them as a 3.5-point favorite... 

With conference play getting into full swing this week there are a number of crucial games on the Week 4 college football schedule. As always, the Power 5 league’s dominated the headlines and a mega battle takes place in Wisconsin between two ranked teams. The Pac-12 has regained some of its swagger with six teams ranked in the latest AP top-25 poll, the most in almost four years. However, that doesn’t mean the league is chasing down the SEC for supremacy.... 

Hey Maryland and USC, thanks for playing. After entering the top-25 last week those two fell out of the rankings with lackluster losses, opening the door for a few other schools to crack into the poll. The bottom of the top-25 will probably change every week with teams waiting on the doorstep while others falter. A pair of Pac-12 teams snuck into the rankings this week with Cal at No. 23 and Arizona State at No. 24. TCU also cracked the top-25 entering as the final team in the rankings.... 

Things are heating up for Chip Kelly in more ways than one. Not only are his UCLA Bruins facing the red-hot Oklahoma Sooners as a 23.5-point underdog on the current college football odds in Week 3, his lack of wins since taking over the program have put Kelly on an uncomfortably warm seat. It’s nothing a major upset can’t fix, but the Bruins haven’t won a game outright when getting 20 or more points on the closing line since at least 2002. The Sooners look to continue their early season dominanc...

Maybe, just maybe, the Syracuse Orange were looking ahead to their Week 3 matchup with No. 1 ranked Clemson Tigers. That might help explain their dreadful effort in a 63-20 loss to Maryland. No team has played Clemson tougher over the last two seasons. The Orange pulled off a stunning upset at home two years ago and had a late lead last season before succumbing. We’ll keep a close eye on a couple of new teams as we enter Week 3 of the 2019 college football season after the top-25 had a mild shakeup at the bottom. Impressive wins by Maryland and USC over ranked foes vaulted them into the rankings, knocking their opponents out of the top-25. The Terps hammered Syracuse, 63-20, to essentially switch places with the Orange at No. 21. Meanwhile, playing with backup turned starter Kedon Slovis after the loss of JT Daniels, the Trojans got all over Stanford to enter the poll at No. 24. In the storied history of USC football, Slovis’ 377 passing yards set a program record for a freshman. ... 

The SEC is living up to its billing as the best conference in college football. Three of the top four teams in the recent national rankings reside in the SEC, but we are not going to see all three in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.... 

It has only been one week, but the Heisman Trophy odds have already moved with Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts surging into immediate contention. Hurts had six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing, in a 49-31 win over Houston last week. He threw for 332 yards and was extremely impressive in Oklahoma’s season-opening win over Houston. Hurts is right behind Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence in the latest Heisman Trophy odds. ... 

After several years of mediocrity, the once proud Texas Longhorns are poised to make a return to prominence in the college football landscape. Their top-10 showdown with the LSU Tigers on Saturday, September 7, will go a long way toward validating their ascent. Both teams had little trouble in their opener with the Horns getting primed for their Louisiana swing by hammering Tech. They will face a much stiffer State while getting 5.5-points at offshore sportsbooks. The game will air live in prime... 

With the first full weekend of the 2019 college football season in the books we have a better understanding of most teams. However, the action in Week 2 will bring further clarity to what’s in store the rest of the way. We followed a few wise guy plays last week and the results were as expected. The sharps hammered Clemson and the Tigers narrowly covered the spread in their win over Georgia Tech.... 

Not only do you have to be good to go undefeated, you also have to catch a few breaks along the way. The Clemson Tigers were national championship good last year with a perfect record, but it could have been much different had the Texas AM Aggies converted a late 2-point conversion when the teams met in College Station. The Aggies feel they are a better squad this year and they have a chance to prove it when they visit Memorial Stadium for a Week 2 showdown with the No. 1 ranked team in the land.
