Old School Meets New School
This is a very different year in the Big 12 Conference compared to previous seasons. Usually the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns are the marquee powers and gambling brands of the conference. But like everything else in the year 2020 the CFB betting season is the ultimate wild card. Texas and Oklahoma are both coming of losses heading into this week’s Red River Shootout. This powerhouse rivalry is a revered college football tradition and more often than not is a shootout. Considering the lack of defense on both teams another wild high scoring affair is expected. ...
It is hard to fathom the success of the Clemson Tigers following five straight college football playoff appearances. Additionally, coach Dabo Swinney’s program has played in four of the last five national championship games with two wins. However, as a result of this college football betting success has come larger price tags. Causal gamblers and squares bet all value out of Clemson games. With more success Clemson’s value has taken a hit. By contrast the upstart Miami Hurricanes may bring a fair price to Death Valley Saturday night. The U has been one of the season’s early surprises. But a game at Clemson is a defining test. ...
Last week was quite a contrast in opening day performances for both the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. On the Plains coach Gus Malzahn sported a Pat Dye retro look in a respectful tribute to the legendary Auburn coach who died last summer. Malzahn’s white, short sleeve shirt, blue and orange striped tie, and throwback blue cap with an orange Block A was a fan favorite. Most important of all War Eagle scored a CFB odds cover against Kentucky. By contrast Georgia failed to get the cash in...
On Saturday afternoon at Tuscaloosa, Alabama there will be plenty of history and memories for fans and gamblers as the Alabama Crimson Tide hosts the Texas A&M Aggies. The Late Great legendary Hall of Fame coach Paul “Bear” Bryant is the reason why. Bryant coached the famed “Junction Boys” of Texas A&M from 1954 through 1957. Of course, that team survived one of the most brutal preseason training camps in football history. But those who made it through the torture became winners and legends. Following his success at Texas A&M, the Bear went on to Alabama where he made his fame, fortune, and Hall of Fame career. This historic connection to Bryant has made for a special rivalry between the Aggies and Crimson Tide. ...
COVID-19 caused the most difficult offseason in college football history. Especially for programs with new coaches such as the Missouri Tigers. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz did not get a spring practice that was desperately needed in order to implement his new system. On the other hand, the Alabama Crimson Tide have a powerful and established championship program. That being said head coach Nick Saban also needed a spring practice as the program transitions away from the unique offensive system designed for former quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is now a Miami Dolphin. Overmatched Mizzou will be a massive underdog with the CFB Odds as they will host the Crimson Tide Saturday Night. It’s the season opener for both teams. ...
First and foremost, Mike Leach was the most successful Washington State head coach in a generation. But “The Pirate” saw what a mess the Pac 12 Conference has become. So too did he know that Wazzu had reached its maximum output as a program under his leadership. With that in mind Leach went to the best conference in the land. He has always wondered how his “Air Raid” system would work in the SEC. Leach joined a Mississippi State Bulldogs program with natural challenges against the CFB Odds. Leach debuts at the defending national champion LSU Tigers Saturday. LSU will be a vastly different team for 2020. ...
D’Eriq King and the No. 17 ranked Miami Hurricanes will have an excellent opportunity to climb up the rankings on Saturday night when they invade Cardinal Stadium to do battle with the newly anointed No. 18 ranked Louisville Cardinals who likely won’t have forgotten about the woodshed beating the Canes dropped upon them in the lone confrontation a season ago. This is a huge show-me spot for a Cards’ defense that allowed a bad Miami offense to drop 52-points on their heads last season. Now the un...
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s football program hasn’t experienced the type of success it currently has since the Lou Holtz days. From 1991-93, the team logged an impressive 31-5-1 record. But over the last three seasons, Brian Kelly has led the team to 11, 12 and 10 victories to go along with a pair of bowl wins. That said, it hasn’t transpired into much national notoriety with the lone big appearance ending with a thud after the Clemson Tigers romped them 30-3 in the CFP semifinal matchup in ...
The Clemson Tigers enter the 2020-21 college football betting season the No. 1 ranked team in the land. How could they not be considering how consistent Dabo Swinney’s kids have been over the last handful of seasons? The College Football Playoffs have seen the Tigers a part of the action each of the last five seasons. On top of that, Clemson logged four national title game berths and took home a pair of national championships in the process. Dave Clawson has been able to get the most out of his ...
The post Malcolm Perry era begins in earnest on Labor Day night when the Navy Midshipmen welcome the BYU Cougars into Annapolis for the season opener for both squads. Kalani Sitake has taken his Cougars bowling three of the four seasons he’s coached in Provo, and looks to have another bowl worthy entrant at his disposal heading into 2020. Ken Niumatalolo possibly did his best coaching job a season ago leading the Middies to an 11-2 record and bowl game win after struggling through a 3-10 record ...
Three major college football conferences have gone ahead with plans for a fall football season, including the Big 12. The Big 12 announced their football schedule for 2020 with teams playing a nine-game conference season with one nonconference matchup. The nonconference games are expected to be played on September 12th, while the conference schedule will begin on September 26. Each team will have two bye weeks along with a conference-wide bye week on September 19th. The extra bye weeks will give...
The 2020 SEC football schedule was released on Monday with teams beginning play on September 26. The hope for each of the SEC schools is that they can manage the coronavirus and keep their players relatively healthy. Whether that is possible or not is still a huge question mark. If things go as planned the 2020 SEC football schedule will be very exciting, as Alabama will host Georgia on October 17th in the first regular season meeting between the teams in Tuscaloosa since 2007. New Mississippi h...
While some college football conferences have decided to postpone College Football until the spring, a number of major conferences, including the ACC, will be going ahead with a fall football schedule. The 2020 ACC college football schedule will look different than previous seasons because of the COVID-19 situation and the 2020 ACC college football schedule will include a temporary ...
College football bettors just witnessed one of the most dominant campaigns ever put forth by an LSU Tigers program that ran roughshod upon the SEC before skunking both Oklahoma and Clemson to win its fourth all-time national championship. They did so as lofty 33-1 underdogs at the outset of the season, but went off the board odds on +145 favorites to hoist the hardware at online sportsbooks once the final four teams were announced for the College Football Playoff. With so much departed from Coach O’s championship squad heading into 2020-21 including the likely No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, it’s pretty safe to assume LSU won’t be in the running to defend its title; a 15-1 return on the title odds solidifies that belief. Here’s a very early look at the top contenders in the eyes of the linemakers as well as those possibly getting overlooked just like last year’s Geaux Tigers. ...
We might as well call it the Super Bowl of college football since that’s essentially what it is. The 2019 season concludes on Monday, January 13, with the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between Tigers from LSU and Clemson. It’s almost too bad the game isn’t taking place in El Paso where the undefeated powerhouses could just make it the Tiger Trifecta at the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. But I digress. Not only are we expecting a great game between two great teams loaded with futu...
It’s going to be a good old-fashioned cat fight to determine the college football national champion. Behind Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, the LSU Tigers put a hurt on Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl with a CFP record point total in their 63-28 victory. The defending champion Clemson Tigers played their toughest opponent of the season and once again proved the doubters wrong with a thrilling comeback over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Clemson looks to become the first repeat CFP National Champion...
The Utah Utes were 60 minutes away from a possible berth in the College Football Playoff before an unsettling loss to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship instead has them headed to San Antonio for a showdown with the Texas Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl. The Horns also had visions of a more prestigious postseason affair after opening the campaign ranked in the top-10, but they barely qualified for their third straight bowl under Tom Herman. Current college football odds have the Utes favored by a tou...
It’s not a College Football Playoff game but it certainly has the feel of one. That’s probably because we’re used to seeing the Alabama Crimson Tide competing for a national championship at the end of a season. For the first time in the CFP era the Tide isn’t part of the festivities. Instead Bama will take on Big Ten foe Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl in what sets up to be the most intriguing postseason game of the year. Current college football odds have Alabama as a 7-point favorite fo...
One thing about bowl season is that we get to see matchups we’ve never seen before. And it’s also a chance for the Group of Five programs to flex their muscles against teams from the Power conferences. That’s the situation in the Liberty Bowl when the Navy Midshipmen take on the Kansas State Wildcats. The Middies lost out on a trip to the American title game by losing to Memphis earlier in the year, but it was quite the turnaround going from three wins in 2018 to 10 this year and a national rank...
Despite a blowout loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship it’s been a nice season for the Virginia Cavaliers, who reached a New Year’s Six tilt for the first time and will take on the Florida Gators in the Orange Bowl with a chance to win 10 games. It won’t be easy with current college football odds having the Gators as a two-touchdown favorite to win their second straight NY6 contest. The 2019 Capital One Orange Bowl kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, December 30, from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami...
Two losses in their last three games aren’t enough to deter the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2003 and for just the second time in more than a century. To get that 11th victory the Gophers have to overcome the Auburn Tigers in the Outback Bowl in the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Tigers lost more games during the regular season but are a 7-point favorite on the current college football odds. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesd...
By the time the second CFP semifinal kicks off half the field for the national championship game will be decided. That means the winner of the Clemson Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes Fiesta Bowl matchup will have one more game left in their season. The Tigers have won 28 straight games and look to become the second repeat CFP champion. They blasted Alabama last year and handled Ohio State in the same Fiesta Bowl, 31-0, three years ago. The game takes place at 8 p.m. ET from State Farm Stadium in ...
Considering the season the LSU Tigers had behind Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, nobody is going to argue that they are the top-seed in their first College Football Playoff. The Oklahoma Sooners got a gift for their third straight and fourth overall playoff appearance when Utah was knocked off in the Pac-12 title game. OU was the No. 4 seed last year and lost to No. 1 Alabama. ESPN will televise the CFP semifinal from the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Saturday, December 28, at 4 p.m. ET from Merced...
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have played a lot of football against a lot of teams during their 113 seasons of competition. They will face the Iowa State Cyclones for the first time when the two hook up in the Camping World Bowl. Both squads enter this matchup after disappointing campaigns. The Irish, one year removed from a College Football Playoff berth, finished the regular season at 10-2 and faded from the national spotlight despite winning five straight to end the season. Current college fo...
The Memphis Tigers are enjoying the best season in program history, but the season will end without the guy who led them to the lofty status. Mike Norvell was hired away from the Tigers and will not be on the sideline in the Cotton Bowl matchup with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Memphis earned the Group of Five spot in the New Year’s Six by winning the American Athletic Conference with a 12-1 overall record. Memphis is making its sixth straight bowl appearance but hasn’t won in the last four. Cu...
