Old School Meets New School
The tricky thing about playing a parlay at a Bitcoin sportsbook is that one wrong outcome can ruin an otherwise good ticket. And in the end it’s a loser since every bet has to hit in order to pay out. That’s what happened last week with my three NFL parlay picks. It was a better outcome than the previous week hitting two of three picks after going 1-2 in Week 2. I guess that means I’m trending in the right direction with a winning ticket on the other side. One thing to keep an eye on when betting the NFL is injuries. We saw a few more quarterbacks come up lame in Week 3. Derek Carr exited with a shoulder injury and although he finished the game Vegas’ Jimmy Garoppolo was treated for a concussion. ...
With Week 3 of the 2023 NFL season upon us it’s time to get serious about our betting methods and technique. Actually the method for our parlay picks will remain the same with a three-bet ticket. The technique needs to change, however, after losing two of three wagers on last week’s card. So I’ll scan the lines for the upcoming games at Crypto Sportsbooks looking for the best value picks. I feel for the New York Jets, who did everything they could to get into a position to reach the playoffs. One thing you can’t account for is injuries and the Jets had the most serious one with Aaron Rodgers going down. I still had faith backing them and 9.5-points last week. Zack Wilson isn’t the answer, though, and Gang Green is in trouble. ...
The good thing about NFL parlays is that a winning ticket can set you up for several weeks. The bad thing is they’re hard to win, which is why the payout is so handsome. I went with a couple of two-team parlays in Week 1 of the NFL season splitting both and coming out with my finger and thumb in the shape of an L on my forehead. With the ode to Smashmouth singer Steve Harwell out of the way I’ll move on to my Week 2 NFL parlay picks at Bitcoin Sportsbooks looking for my first win of the season. Had I combined the Detroit Lions bet with the Baltimore Ravens on a single ticket, I’d be rolling in dough. Unfortunately those winners were on separate tickets with the Steelers on the moneyline and Seattle minus the points. Ugh, those two were ugly. Pittsburgh got steamrolled by San Fran and the Seahawks were a mess against the Rams. Unlike Aaron Rodgers, I’ll continue to play the rest of the season. ...
If you have some extra cash lying around and want to increase the entertainment value of your first betting week of the NFL season, parlay bets are a fun investment. A parlay consists of multiple bets on the same ticket with shops accepting as many as 12 bets, though the numbers and odds vary at different crypto sportsbooks. And you can have different types of bets on the same ticket, but they all must win in order to pay out. Winning nine bets on a 10-team parlay makes for a great story, but it’s still a loser. With a majority of teams sitting starters and regulars for much of the preseason, we didn’t glean much from the exhibition games. Most of what we know and handicap is based on past results and a lot can change, so I’m heading into Week 1 cautiously optimistic about my NFL parlay picks. But we’ll see if I can make a few bucks anyway. ...
Week 3 offers two nationally televised prime time Bitcoin Betting games to wrap up the 2023 Preseason. Also, NFL Network has a normal assortment of action to give fans a final appetizer before things get real in Week One of the regular season. Friday night on CBS, the Detroit Lions visit the Carolina Panthers. Both teams have captured the imagination of gamblers but for opposite reasons. Detroit is touted as a team that can finally break out into a legitimate contender. At the same time, the Panthers are trying to get the number one overall draft pick in 2023, Bryce Young, up to competence at QB. ...
Week 2 is the best week of the 3-week Preseason. That is because most teams will want to get their regulars at least some action before the final week of the exhibition late. Next week, teams will focus on marginal players trying to make the final roster cut. Week 2 ends with an attractive ESPN matchup of the Baltimore Ravens at Washington Commanders. Washington has been making more headlines than anyone else in the preseason. First, the Commanders are finally rid of the scourge known as owner Dan Snyder. And there is hopeful talk of the franchise restoring the nickname “Redskins” in the 2024 campaign. ...
At the onset of the week is excitement about the first full week of NFL Preseason football. However, gamblers will scramble to keep up with the continuous lineup changes. For the established NFL contenders, the main objective is to escape the exhibition season without a major injury. Beyond that, these contenders will focus on working with new players and discovering role players to add to roster depth. As a result of the dynamics of preseason football, live betting is increasing as a popular alternative. Although NFL exhibition games don’t remotely resemble the regular season intensity and quality, it is football. And for millions of gamblers and fans, that is enough. ...
It’s unlikely that we will see any starters take the field, but there will still be plenty of excitement for the Hall of Fame Game between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. This is the first game of the new calendar season, and tens of thousands of fans will be in attendance while millions of fans watch this game from home. The 2023 NFL Preseason will get underway this week as the New York Jets take on the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game. These teams will meet on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC from Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. ...
Three different teams have won the NFC West over the last three seasons. The Seattle Seahawks claimed the division in 2020, the Los Angeles Rams topped the division on their way to winning Super Bowl LVI in 2021, and the San Francisco 49ers finished first in the NFC West last season. This figures to be a two-horse race this season as the Los Angeles Rams are in salary cap hell and the Arizo...
Every team in the NFC South has claimed at least one division title since 2015 and two division titles since 2012. That makes this one of the more even divisions in the NFL, so don’t be surprised if we see a lot of parity in the NFC South this season. All four of these teams have major question marks, and there is a decent chance that the team wins this division finishes with a sub-.500 record. ...
There is no clear-cut favorite to win the NFC North. Currently, the oddsmakers have the Detroit Lions listed as the team to beat in the division, but the Lions haven’t claimed a division title since 1993. This hard-luck franchise has only won four division titles since its foundation in 1930, so it’s a bit dangerous to trust the Lions to finish atop the NFC North. That’s part of the reaso...
The Philadelphia Eagles put together one of their best seasons in franchise history in 2022. Philadelphia was the top team in the NFC all year long, finishing with a 14-3 record on its way to locking up home field advantage. The NFC Playoffs were a breeze for the Eagles as they routed the New York Giants in the Divisional Round and then crushed the quarterback-less San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Philly led the Kansas City Chiefs at halftime of Super Bowl LVII, but Patrick Maho...
Incredibly, every team has won the AFC West 15 times. That speaks to the long-term egalitarianism we have seen in this division, but that’s also just a snapshot in time. When you look closer, this is a division that has been defined by mini dynasties going on long runs of dominance against their division rivals. For instance, the San Diego Chargers won the AFC West five times between 2004 and 2009...
Surprisingly, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the second largest favorites to win their division in the AFC. That’s because the AFC South is arguably the weakest division in the league, and Jacksonville came on strong at the end of last season. The Jaguars could have a very explosive offense in the third year under center for Trevor Lawrence, while no one else in the division has a decent option un...
According to the NFL futures odds, the AFC North is the most evenly matched division in the AFC. The Cincinnati Bengals are the favorites, but they are not an odds-on favorite per the oddsmakers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the shortest longshot in the conference at just over 5-1. Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh have all won this division four times over the last 12 years, but Clevelan...
After a two-decade reign from one franchise, the AFC East is now ruled by another team. The Buffalo Bills have stopped the New England Patriots’ supremacy in this division and have now won three consecutive AFC East titles themselves. The oddsmakers have made Buffalo the AFC East favorites again per the NFL futures odds, but both the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets have a decent chance of cla...
Though their projected 2023 win total isn’t the highest in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles are the favorite to win the conference championship again. Just three years ago the Eagles won four games and finished last in the NFC East. Things flipped under Nick Sirianni with nine wins in 2021 followed by a franchise record 14 wins a season ago. The club inked Jalen Hurts to ...
If the San Francisco 49ers had a quarterback they might have reached the Super Bowl last season. Their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship was so bad the league made a rule change this offseason to address that situation. Unfortunately it doesn’t help the Niners now. And because of the QB situation there are some concerns about the Niners, who boast th...
Winning eight of their last 10 games kept the Detroit Lions in playoff contention until the final weekend of the 2022 season. Finishing with nine victories and their first winning record since 2017 raised expectations in the Motor City and Coach of the Year candidate Dan Campbell has changed the culture. That doesn’t mean squat until the results occur on the field and oddsmakers have...
With Patrick Mahomes behind center the Kansas City Chiefs are always a threat to reach and win the Super Bowl. For the second time in four years they enter the season as the defending champions after rallying to beat Philadelphia, 38-35, in Super Bowl LVII. Since Mahomes became the permanent starter in 2018 the Chiefs have won at least 12 regular season games matching the 2...
For the first time since the mid-1990s the Dallas Cowboys strung together back-to-back seasons with double digit victories. Winning 12 games in each of the last two years has taken some of the heat off Mike McCarthy, but now it’s time for the Boys to perform when it matters most after getting bounced by the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs both years. The offense regressed last ...
If the trajectory the Cincinnati Bengals have taken under coach Zac Taylor continues they should have around 14 wins this season surpassing their projected total of 11.5, tied with Kansas City and San Francisco as the highest on the board. In Taylor’s first year the Bengals won two games earning the No. 1 overall pick in the draft selecting Joe Burrow. Burrow was playing we...
It’s hard to argue that any team has been devastated by injuries more than the Baltimore Ravens over the last few seasons. If they are able to stay relatively healthy the Ravens should compete for a playoff spot and division title in 2023. Lamar Jackson is the key figure in the offense and the team made it a priority to lock him up giving him a sweet deal durin...
The championship window for the Buffalo Bills is still open, but with each passing year it closes ever so slightly. With 47 wins over the last four seasons the Bills are one of the top teams in the AFC, however playoff losses to Kansas City and the Bengals over the last three seasons has prevented Buffalo from reaching the Super Bowl. One could expect 2023 to be their year or maybe t...
The NFL futures odds market is huge. You have Super Bowl odds, conference odds and even division champion odds. You can also wager on whether or not a team will make the playoffs at the conclusion of the 2023 NFL regular season. Those are just some of the team futures with a whole market just for individuals. Let’s get back to the playoff situation, though, shall we. The league changed the playoff format last season with two additional teams – one from each conference – added to the fray. Thus w...
