Week eight was a confirmation for fans and backers of the Michigan Wolverines as their dominating payout at the Michigan State Spartans served notice to the college football world that the Maize and Blue was indeed truly back as a substantive national power. At the payout window last week “undertakers” were particularly happy with just 20 of the 55 week eight games clearing the total. Home field provided little advantage with the host teams paying in only 23 games last week. Chalks had a slight advantage for week eight with just 25 losses on the board. The Iowa Hawkeyes just won’t go away in the Big Ten race and an upset victory over Penn State in Week 9 sets them up well for the rest of the season. Their only loss was a big one, though, falling to West favorite Wisconsin a few weeks ago. Since then the Hawkeyes have been dominant and their shutout victory over Maryland last Saturday showed off their stingy defense. Most pundits figured last week’s game with NC State would be one of Clemson’s toughest battles. That was hardly the case. In a matchup of the ACC’s last unbeatens, the Tigers used their explosive offense to dismantle the Pack, clearing their path to another Atlantic Division title. We’ve seen several games shift around on the line in the early going of the college football betting week. If you followed my Fade the Public Plays last weekend, all I can say is I’m sorry and I feel your pain. I put a big goose egg in the win column with my fades last week. The public laughed and snickered at all of my plays, and even I was left scratching my head after San Jose State and Rutgers were blown away by teams that aren’t as good as those box scores indicate. To make matters worse, I picked three losers in a week where the chalk got killed.... 

Week seven certainly reshuffled the deck as far as the national championship prospects of several teams. Beyond that there is a different perception as far as top contenders and who could possibly unseat the Alabama Crimson Tide for the national championship. While Alabama remains the prohibitive favorite, the top alternatives are changing in the minds of many gamblers. While the Georgia Bulldogs, Washington Huskies and West Virginia Mountaineers have dropped in public esteem the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines have seen their stock rise. Gone. Finito. Kaput. The Washington Huskies’ hopes of making it to the College Football Playoff are up in smoke after losing to Oregon in overtime last week. Coupled with a loss to a freefalling Auburn back in the first week of the season, the most the Huskies can hope for at this point is a Pac-12 North title and a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Santa Clara later this year. During the offseason, Jim Harbaugh landed the quarterback he needed to get the Michigan Wolverines over the mediocre hump. Last week he got the signature victory to put UM in the middle of the Big Ten race. Criticized for not winning a meaningful game in league play, Harbaugh and the Wolverines remained undefeated in the B1G with a big win over Wisconsin. The Colorado State Rams have been trying to dig out from the very start of their 2018 season that began with head coach Mike Bobo being hospitalized during preseason camp followed by a jaw dropping 43-34 opening day loss to Hawaii. After going 3-1 ATS with my Fade The Public Plays in Week 5, last week’s plays ended up losing money. The week got off to a great start as Utah State hammered BYU on the road despite being a short underdog, but then things took a screeching turn right off a cliff. Virginia Tech was crushed by Notre Dame, Arizona State came up short against Colorado, and Arkansas pushed against Alabama. If you followed my total plays last week, all I can say is I’m sorry. This might not be baseball, but I still deserve a golden sombrero for going 0-4 and missing the mark wildly on two of my plays. The over in UCF/SMU and the under in Washington/UCLA were at least close and had a decent shot at getting the win throughout. However, the under in UMass/USF and the over in Virginia Tech/Notre Dame never really had a chance. There is no erasing the past and going backward at this point though, so the...
