For the third straight week, I posted a losing record with my college football totals plays. At least, I was consistent last week though. I went 1-2 for the second straight week, and that has me somewhat frustrated. Nothing seems to be going right with my plays, as my one winner in the bunch was more than a little lucky. I’d like to say I’m due, but at this point my confidence is shook and it’s hard to say I’ll turn things around with certainty. ... 

The public keeps on winning…at least if they are backing the plays that I am fading. That’s due to change sooner rather than later as we enter the meat of the college football season though. Last week’s plays went 1-2 ATS, but they had a real shot of going 3-0. Arizona State played dead even with Stanford for most of their game during the week, while East Carolina outgained Central Florida but five turnovers doomed the Pirates in a 27-point loss. This week, it’s time for some of that luck to go ... 

Week 9 offers an interesting and stark contrast of two potentially strong parlays. This week we will have both a group of teams that are coming off huge emotional wins that could leave them drained for this week. At the same time, we will also have a group of teams that are coming off bad or disappointing losses in which they should be motivated to ... 

Week 9 shows the Alabama Crimson Tide holding steady as the public choice to win the national championship. As a matter of fact, the real story is finding the top alternative to the Tide. Bargain hunters have long ago given up on finding any real value on Alabama. And in fact, even those who believe the Crimson Tide are unbeatable are unwilling to pay the big price. Meanwhile contrarian shoppers may take a look at the Ohio State Buckeyes. That’s right the Buckeyes. After being run off the field in a loss at the Purdue Boilermakers the price on OSU is now a bargain. But the Michigan Wolverines and Clemson Tigers were the most impressive alternative last Saturday. ... 

The 90^th meeting between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Navy Midshipmen will be in beautiful San Diego this Saturday. Notre Dame has dominated the all-time series and holds a 75-13-1 record over Navy. However, the Midshipmen have been far more competitive with the Irish over the last decade than at any point since Roger Staubach last lined up under center for Navy. They have won four of the last contests between these two teams and won the last neutral site contest in Jacksonville ... 

Week nine’s best matchup of all could very well be the one known as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs. Florida has shown rapid improvement under new head coach Dan Mullen after stubbing their toe early in a home loss to Kentucky. Georgia was undefeated until their last game which was an embarrassing blowout loss at LSU that many believe was overdue to have happened. With the arrival of Jimbo Fisher expectations for the Texas A&M Aggies are indeed larger than life and emblematic of the state itself. As the saying goes. “everything is bigger in Texas” and that is certainly the case ever since the Aggies nearly upset national title contender Clemson in week two. Week nine features a Friday night appetizer from the Atlantic Coast Conference between two inconsistent teams as the Miami Hurricanes meet the Boston College Eagles. Miami was touted for big things this year but has stalled due to an inconsistent offense with poor quarterback play. Boston College has one of the superior rushing attacks and offensive lines in the country but will be up against a Hurricanes defense that is among the best in the lands. Week nine action in the power five opens with an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup between the struggling Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the inconsistent but still contending Virginia Tech Hokies. Week eight was a confirmation for fans and backers of the Michigan Wolverines as their dominating payout at the Michigan State Spartans served notice to the college football world that the Maize and Blue was indeed truly back as a substantive national power. At the payout window last week “undertakers” were particularly happy with just 20 of the 55 week eight games clearing the total. Home field provided little advantage with the host teams paying in only 23 games last week. Chalks had a slight advantage for week eight with just 25 losses on the board. Most of all the Purdue Boilermakers proved to be a big and lively home dog as they ran the Ohio State Buckeyes back to Columbus on a rail. The Iowa Hawkeyes just won’t go away in the Big Ten race and an upset victory over Penn State in Week 9 sets them up well for the rest of the season. Their only loss was a big one, though, falling to West favorite Wisconsin a few weeks ago. Since then the Hawkeyes have been dominant and their shutout victory over Maryland last Saturday showed off their stingy defense. The Hawkeyes have won their last three games by 17, 26 and 23 points and are spotted 4.5-points on the opening college football W... 

Most pundits figured last week’s game with NC State would be one of Clemson’s toughest battles. That was hardly the case. In a matchup of the ACC’s last unbeatens, the Tigers used their explosive offense to dismantle the Pack, clearing their path to another Atlantic Division title. The Florida State Seminoles are no stranger to being at the top of the division rankings, but this has been a transition season for them. Willie Taggart’s squad stumbled out of the gate and has just a 2-3 league recor... 

We’ve seen several games shift around on the line in the early going of the college football betting week. None has been more volatile than the Pac-12 showdown between the Oregon Ducks and Washington State Cougars. We don’t typically see lines jump the fence, and we rarely see that happen twice. But it did for this matchup. Wazzou opened as 2-point favorite but the line was quickly wagered in Oregon’s favor and hopped to OU -1 shortly after hitting the board. My total plays continue to miss the mark, but at least I didn’t put a zero in the win column this week. I went 1-2 with total plays last week, as both Notre Dame-Pittsburgh and West Virginia-Iowa State fell far short of the total. My lone win was the under in Penn State vs. Michigan State, but I’m not taking any solace in winning just one game. This week, I’m out for vengeance, or at least a reversion to the mean. I’ve lost six of my last seven total plays, so it’s only a matter of time before I... 

If you followed my Fade the Public Plays last weekend, all I can say is I’m sorry and I feel your pain. I put a big goose egg in the win column with my fades last week. The public laughed and snickered at all of my plays, and even I was left scratching my head after San Jose State and Rutgers were blown away by teams that aren’t as good as those box scores indicate. To make matters worse, I picked three losers in a week where the chalk got killed.... 

Week seven certainly reshuffled the deck as far as the national championship prospects of several teams. Beyond that there is a different perception as far as top contenders and who could possibly unseat the Alabama Crimson Tide for the national championship. While Alabama remains the prohibitive favorite, the top alternatives are changing in the minds of many gamblers. While the Georgia Bulldogs, Washington Huskies and West Virginia Mountaineers have dropped in public esteem the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines have seen their stock rise. Let’s take a look at the top favorites to win the national championship. ... 

Gone. Finito. Kaput. The Washington Huskies’ hopes of making it to the College Football Playoff are up in smoke after losing to Oregon in overtime last week. Coupled with a loss to a freefalling Auburn back in the first week of the season, the most the Huskies can hope for at this point is a Pac-12 North title and a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Santa Clara later this year. They need to win out to feel good about their chances of getting there, and that means they must bounce back and ... 

During the offseason, Jim Harbaugh landed the quarterback he needed to get the Michigan Wolverines over the mediocre hump. Last week he got the signature victory to put UM in the middle of the Big Ten race. Criticized for not winning a meaningful game in league play, Harbaugh and the Wolverines remained undefeated in the B1G with a big win over Wisconsin. Another mammoth matchup in the East is on top for Saturday when UM pays a visit to the Michigan State Spartans... 

A pair of undefeated teams will square off for the ACC Atlantic lead when the No. 3 Clemson Tigers host the No. 16 North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday. Everybody expected Clemson to be in this position and the Tigers haven’t disappointed as they look for a return trip to the college football playoff. NC State has been a pleasant surprise in an otherwise down year for the ACC. And the Pack could certainly throw a wrench in the league standings if they pull off the upset as a 17-point road d... 

Week Eight has a multitude of potentially live home dogs that are more than capable. In fact, this looks like one of the more dangerous weeks to get involved with laying points anywhere, especially on the road. Week eight will include one of the most important matchups in any of the Power Five conferences as the slumping but capable TCU Horned Frogs host the Oklahoma Sooners at high noon on Saturday. Oklahoma has had two weeks to stew over their loss to arch rival Texas in the Red River Shootout while the Horned Frogs are yet to get over their close call loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Week eight offers a longstanding Southeastern Conference traditional rivalry that has lost a bit of its luster in recent years. The Alabama Crimson Tide are being touted as one of the greatest teams of all time. Indeed, Bama is toying with opponents in recent weeks and has not been truly tested. For the Tennessee Volunteers it has been a decade of misery but perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel after last week’s 30-24 win at the Auburn Tigers. The Colorado State Rams have been trying to dig out from the very start of their 2018 season that began with head coach Mike Bobo being hospitalized during preseason camp followed by a jaw dropping 43-34 opening day loss to Hawaii. The Rams have won two in a row after starting 1-4 as they have managed to get back into the Mountain West Conference Mountain Division race.
